Hi
New customer just starting second month.
After an initial hiccup, I was getting 7Mb download with a few hours of what looked like 5 or 6 (did not check) until yesterday.
I had been resetting SIDs and passwords in the Netgear DG834G 5 and a couple of other old ones acting as slave Wi-Fi access points connected by Cat5 cable from my main ADSL router the Netgear DG834G 5 to give an even coverage for my smart phone.
I then went to download some large items on my PC and was startled to see I was down to 1Mb speed. This is the same today and appears to be my current profile. Whether my messing around caused BT to reset my profile or it was a coincidence I know not. I was only aware of one dropped connection for a few seconds a few days ago. Two or three dropped connections a month and 7Mb is far better than no dropped connections and 1Mb!!!
My current stats are as follows if relevant.
Router details Netgear DG834G 5
noise margin Up 4.0 down 3.0
attenuation Up 5.5 down 12.5
bandwidth up 2,628 kbps down 23,766kbps
BT Speed test
Downstream Profile 1000 Kbps
Upstream Profile 444 Kbps
Download achieved 933 Kbps up 351 Kbps down
DSL connection rate 1184 Kbps downstream 444 Kbps upstream.
Estimated line speed 5 Mb
Current line speed 1 Mb
Will my profile go up automatically in 2 or 3 days if the line behaves itself or can I do something?
Thanks in advance.

Something has gone horribly wrong.
Why is the BT speedtest reporting totally different connection speeds to your router - please recheck both

It looks as though there was a resync with the exchange 3 1/2 hours ago which will have increased the sync rate from that reported by the earlier BT test
If things stay as they are for a couple of days the IP profile should recover automatically.
You can't speed it up
Looking at your noise margin it looks as though the exchange equipment has increased the default noise margin due to instability on the line.
Whether this happened due to the initial problem or subsequently we can't know.
However it would be worth checking a couple of things
Is everything attached to the phone line filtered.
Do you have a Sky box connected to the phone line
Do you have a monitored alarm in the house

Hi johnlbuk,
your connection needs to remain stable for the IP profile to lift. As you can see from the graph below it dropped out around 10 this morning. As Jim says, your IP profile will go up now your sync rate is higher. This normally needs to be 72 hours but larger increases can change quicker, so it may be sooner.

Hi
Thanks both - especially Jim for coments and his sticky post on the subject at the top of this section.
Jim, I do not have a skye box or monitored alarm but although I am sure things are properly filtered splitting right at the master socket can't do any harm.
I have just ordered an ADSL faceplate but better hang onto it until I hit problems before I fit or I will risk the profile going down again by disconnecting the ADSL line I assume.
Whereas the problems shown yesterday could have been caused be me, no one was in at 10am today so was not me for once!
I am a fair distance from Ranmoor exchange (as the phone cable goes right around the estate in a near circle before getting to me!) so 7Mb was more than I expected. Let's hope it goes back up soon to 4 or 5 at least ...
Thanks again both
