Quote from: jelv Bob, I guess it's your choice: Do you want the tickets saying "you've lost my email" and then having to plough through logs etc, to find out what happened to it, or do you want a possible ticket saying an email was rejected because of a suspected virus that you can respond to with a stock answer pointing to a blog post suggesting alternative ways of transferring the file?
Good point. I shall see what needs to be done to get this switched on today then.
Quote from: jelv Has anybody else stopped getting notification emails from these forums? I've not had any since about 18:30 and there have been a lot of replies to topics I'm watching.
Is this still happening jelv? These notifications come through to my internal mail account which is on the same Postini system.
Quote from: jelv There's a big problem. A test email I sent from google mail to myself at username.plus.net has bounced with a too many hops error.
Just to be 100% clear on this, the 554 rejection was *not* caused by Postini. It's due to a problem with a relay flag in the maildb that is getting set incorrectly when a mailbox is refreshed. For some reason it is being set to 'relay' (like it would with smtp) instead of deliver locally (like it should with POP3) - This causes the infinite looping. The problem was open before yesterday (ref:48243) but was thought to affect *very* few mailboxes (the single user cases we had seen had been fixed as they were encountered). I'm going to up its priority today to make sure it's fixed ASAP.
Quote from: Strat BTW have you any idea how many trialists there are?
About 200.
Quote from: Strat Both came in quickly, the first via Postini, the second via criticalpath01
followed shortly after by the missing email from an hour ago.
What server did that email go through? I'm wondering if it could be another example of this.
Quote from: jelv I've just received the first spam which has come through Postini. I can't see anything in the headers that says that Postini thought it was spam and DSPAM pronounced it innocent as well.
Critical Path got the blighter though!
Quote from: jelv Now this is interesting - I've been doing some digging.
ns1.force9.net has the mx records I'd expect for username.plus.com as does ns2.force9.net
212.159.6.9 still has mx.core and mx.last
212.159.6.10 has postini
212.159.13.49 still has mx.core and mx.last
212.159.13.50 still has mx.core and mx.last
That won't be helping matters!
Seems that they all return the Postini records now DNS has been allowed time to settle.

We'll be looking to move a load of dormant accounts that haven't been accessed in a year (IIRC) later this week to help bulk up the figures and make sure the scripts can handle mass migrations.
I suspect the forum notifications will be lost I'm afraid

The one has me puzzled:
Received: from exprod5mx204.postini.com ([64.18.0.63] helo=psmtp.com)
by fhw-sunmxcore20.plus.net with smtp (PlusNet MXCore v2.00) id 1IznaD-0000Fe-OT
for aaa@bbb.plus.com; Wed, 05 Dec 2007 06:18:10 +0000
That has come from Postini to mx.core without going through CP - how?
I notice that in the X-pstn-settings header you currently have it set for level 1.
Quote The first number is the user's Bulk Filter (base) spam setting:
1= lenient
2= less lenient
3= moderate
4= more aggressive
5= most aggressive
Is that going to stay like that until we get the ability to change these settings for ourselves?
I'm collecting all the spam that gets to me in one folder (account spam) on my main mailbox if you want to take a look (I move the spam from other mailboxes to there using IMAP).

That has come through the mx.lasts thus Critical Path being absent. fhw-sunmxcore=mx.last, pih-sunmxcore=mx.core

Yes, or at least until we introduce [-SPAM-] tagging at which point we may need to tweak these settings.
By the way, regarding the virus stuff. We've looked into it and we reckon it's possible for us to mark virus emails and filter them though to our quarantine. This means that it will be business as usual but it will take us a week or two to get this implemented.

D'oh I've made this mistake before - I keep thinking of the low numbers as mx.last and the high numbers as mx.core

I was horrified to see that the Postini Email Security Trial is not a Trial but a warm up to the move to Postini
Quote from Training spam filter - any point?
Quote Edited to Add: What's even more concerning/entertaining/bl**dy annoying is that on the very same day that the 'trial' was announced in pn.s.a, a press release (presumably from PN or postini with PN's agreement but in either case quoting Neil Laycock) announces to the world that PN WILL be implementing the postini system for all customers as it has signed a partnership deal with them ! Clicky for Linky to one example of 'press' comment.
Like I said earlier tho (and particularly so with the google connection) worrying and PN might just as well take the next step and dump in-house e-mail completely and 'offer' customers gmail - which no doubt does (or will) make use of the postini system itself.
Bob I do not want my emails (s) going through Postini.

In one thread, you're complaining abouyt the number of spam emails, and in this thread you're complaining that you don't want your mails to pass through a spam filter.

Not a problem - set up your own mail server and then opt for SMTP mail delivery. That way your email doesn't touch any Plusnet mail servers and is under your own total control.
