Possible Speed Fault

Hi
I seem to having an issue with my internet down speed over the last couple of weeks. I recently have only seemed to be getting 2-3mps where I have previously  getting around 6mps.
I have recently swapped to another product but don't think my line speed should be affected this much.

Re: Possible Speed Fault

Are you connecting to the router via wireless or wired? If wireless do you still see the same speeds when using a wired connection?
Does your router give sync speed, attenuation and noise margin information as well as that you posted (you might need to click a button to see that)?

Re: Possible Speed Fault

Hi
The router has a wired connection to my PC the only Wireless connections are from a PS3 or Iphone.
I had a look through my router yesterday and again this morning looking for sync speed etc but I don't think my router gives this information ( Its a Netgear WGR614) if that helps. Is there any other way I can obtain this information ?

Re: Possible Speed Fault

As far as I can see the WGR614 is 'just' a router and not an ADSL modem you must have a separate modem and it is that device you'd have to access to obtain line stats.  What is your WAN (Internet) port plugged into?

Re: Possible Speed Fault

I did not realise that most of the guides on here refer to a router/modem combo - I was wondering why I could not see the required stats !
I have my router linked through a separate modem which is obviously where the stats would be !
I have posted the stats below
Line Rate 8064 kbps 448 kbps
Attainable Line Rate 10304 kbps 1332 kbps
Noise Margin 15.7 dB 31.0 dB
Line Attenuation 11.9 dB 6.5 dB
Output Power 17.9 dB 10.0 dB

Re: Possible Speed Fault

Can't see anything obvious from your stats, or the way you connect to the Internet to explain why the download speed should be half the expected value. Possibly exchange congestion - what VP status is shown for your exchange in the checker here?
It looks like your modem is connected using ADSL1 (up to 8Mbps). Does it support ADSL2+ (up to 20Mbps)?

Re: Possible Speed Fault

The VP status for my exchange is currently showing as green so everything looks OK from that end.
My modem does support ADSL2+, but if I try and set it to this the modem does not connect so I cannot leave it on that setting,

Re: Possible Speed Fault

Even though the VP Status shows as green the exchange might still be congested, that's something Plusnet can check.
It looks like you are provisioned on ADSL1 even though you are on 21CN. I suggest raising a ticket to request being switched to ADSL2+.
Does your modem have a multimode setting? That will normally connect with ADSL2+ if it's available or ADSL1 if not.

Re: Possible Speed Fault

I will look into raising a ticket to see if I can get switched to ADSL +2 as suggested.
I have my DSL mode set to auto on my modem at the moment so it does look like it is defaulting to ADSL as a result of that. Any settings apart from that are causing the modem to drop connection,

Re: Possible Speed Fault

You can put your number in to Sam Knows exchange search to see if 21CN WBC status shows as enabled, in which case you should be able to upgrade..

Re: Possible Speed Fault

Hi cressa,
It seems that when you were put onto 21CN it was on the 'up to 8Mbps' service (ADSL1). I have now placed an order to put it in ADSL2+ This should complete tomorrow, so let me know how it goes.

p.s. I've raised a ticket to confirm this

So far everything is looking good. Thanks for your help and for everyone else who has contributed to this thread
