Port forwarding.

Hi,
      I support the IT at a computer club where we have Plusnet  ADSL and a TG582N router.
I need to be able to remotely access three servers on the local network.  Two of these are IP9258HP power switches (from openxtra.co.uk) which I use to control the mains supply and reboot the PCs.  The third device is a NAS.
I have successfully forwarded port 80 to one of the power switches to enable remote access, but do not know how to handle the other two devices.
What I am currently doing is remotely powering up one of the PCs on the network and then accessing the other two devices via the local network. I use LogMeIn for this.
Can anyone advise how I can get direct remote access to all three devices.
I use no-ip.com for server names because the IP address given by Plusnet is not fixed.
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: Port forwarding.

Create port forwarding rules for different ports, say 81 & 82, forward them to the additional devices but translate to internal port 80.
Then to Connect to those devices specify the port , e.g http://URL:81

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Port forwarding.

I'm not familiar with the forwarding on the router but I believe you can forward another port, say 81 to 80 on one of  the other machines, then 82 etc.
this might help http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Broadband-Technicolor-TG-582-Configure-Port-Forwarding

Re: Port forwarding.

Thanks for the input.
I believe I understand the principle, but I can't get my head round that awful TG582n router.
I have tried to use port 8081 instead of port 80 and have tried to forward that port to my Stora NAS but I can't get it to work.
I have attached an image showing the port forwarding rule \I have tried to set up.
What am I doing wrong?
When I try to connect to the NAS using <WAN IP>:8081,  I cannot connect.
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: Port forwarding.

You need to set the destination port to the one you would normally use like 80.
So in 8081 dest 80
so connecting to ip:8081 would go to dest:80

Re: Port forwarding.

Sorry hairy, but I don't understand your comments.
How should I change the router setup?
Thanks Geoff

Re: Port forwarding.

In the port forward setup, you have incoming port and destination port
You need to set the incoming to 8081 and the destination to 80 so that if you connect to the router from the net on port 8081 then it is forwarded to port 80 of the server listed as using that rule.
Set up another with a different port to connect to the third one.
so e.g.
8080 to 80 -> server 1 port 80
8081 to 80 -> server 2 port 80
8082 to 80 -> server 3 port 80
So you have 3 rules one for each server and ONLY one used per server.
See the screeny attached.

Re: Port forwarding.

Thanks very much Hairy, it is obvious when it is explained, I will know what to do in future. I am sure it was much clearer on my old Netgear router.
I am pleased to report I have now gained access to my devices using the information you provided.
Thanks again,
Geoff

I use no-ip.com for server names because the IP address given by Plusnet is not fixed.

If you are on Unlimited, for a one off £5 fee you can have a fixed IP.
