Port Forwarding

I have just completed port forwarding my Netgear DG834G w/l router following the instructions on the Port Forwarding site. However I am completely baffled when it comes down to the very last paragragh. Huh
Quote ........ We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Utorrent requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the NAT Rule - Add menu and then click Submit.
And that is it! You are done!
Ok but there are no series of lines and I cannot find the Nat Rule.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Port Forwarding

Have you got a link to the page in questions?
From what I remember, the screenshots provided on that site, give the needed information to enter.

Re: Port Forwarding

It does seem odd, I see what you mean.
From the looks of things though, it can be ignored as the needed information is above it.

Re: Port Forwarding

You need to create a service before you can forward port 52000.  Once you done that, create an incoming rule in your firewall, and forward port 52000 to your pc, remember to enable the rule when you want to use utorrent.
If you have any software firewalls installed then you need to allow incoming / outgoing - tcp / udp ports.

Re: Port Forwarding

Log on your router.
1. from the left hand side menu select services
2. click add custom service button
3. type in utorr in the name box
4 change the type to UDP/TCP (as utorrent uses inbound and outbound connections.)
5. type in 52000 in the start port and 52000 in the finish port.
then click apply
this has created a custom service. you now need to define how the router will use the custom service. to do this
1. click firewall rules
2. under to box which says outbound connections click add
3. in the dropdown box for services find the service you have created above (utorr UDP/TCP 52000) and select this.
4. in the downdown box for action select always
5. you now need to define which PC will be using utorrent. I will assume one only have one PC connected to the router with the internal IP address of 192.168.0.3 (you need to find out your internal IP if its not 192.168.0.3).
6. in LAN users select single address.
7. where it says start type in 192.168.0.3 in the boxes.
8. Leave the finish blank
9. click apply
10. you now need to configure the inbound services.
11. select add under the inbound services title on the firewall rules page.
12. in the dropdown box for services find the service you have created above (utorr UDP/TCP 52000) and select this.
13. in the downdown box for action select always
14. leave send to lan user blank
15. select any in WAN users.
16. click apply
you should now have opened the port 52000 for utorrent to use. if you dont know how to find out your internal IP, click attached devices this will then show all the attached PC's and their IP's. Another thing, if you have more than one PC attached you will need to lock your PC to 192.168.0.3 so it will get the same IP each time you connect to the router, otherwise you may not get the 192.168.03 IP and the firewall rule will not apply to your PC. If you have more than 1 PC attached and do not know how the reserve 192.168.0.3 for your PC let me know and i'll talk you through it.
Let me know if this has sorted your problem.

Re: Port Forwarding

actually im off to work soon (work nights  Sad ) I'll talk you through setting up a reserve IP. The easiest way to do this is make sure your PC is the only PC attached to your internet connection.
1. log onto router and select LAN IP set up in the left hand menu.
2. under where it says address reservation click add
3. click to radio button for your PC so it has a green dot in it.
4. check the IP is 192.168.0.3, if its not change to 192.168.03 in the boxes provided.
5. click add
6. 192.168.0.3 has now been reserved for your PC.

Re: Port Forwarding

Thanks Sloany for all that easy to follow advice, however i have one query ref.the IP address.
My LAN Setup IP is 192.168.0.1
My attached device IP is 192.168.0.2 which I assume is my laptop(not used for utorrent)
So should I use as you first suggested 192.168.0.3 for utorrent on my desktop.
Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Port Forwarding

yeah just make sure that the laptop is turned off so you dont give the laptop 192.168.03 IP by mistake.
I assume when you say desktop you mean your desktop PC.
