Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

I'm not going to get too excited just yet but the downstream SNR has stopped fluctuating and the packet loss is gone.
Ping statistics for 212.159.9.2:
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 239ms, Average = 54ms
Will keep an eye on it.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

Still monitoring, by using the thing. I know BT Wholesale had the fault pushed back to them, did they find anything?

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

No issues were found on your line, a few tweaks to your DLM profile have been made.
We've updated your ticket with further details.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

Well it was working for a little while at least. Pear shaped again now though.
Did a quick TBB monitor to check, though lost that when the line dropped.

Ping statistics for 212.159.9.2:
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 94, Lost = 6 (6% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 39ms, Maximum = 132ms, Average = 45ms
Despite the tweaks DLM seems to be obsessed with breaking the line.
Should I give it 7 more days making it 10 since profile reset in the hope that DLM manages to stabilise things?

That graph doesn't look good, I've passed your ticket back to our faults team to pick up and investigate further.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

Thanks Chris.
A quick check shows it wasn't just an isolated burst. Notice jitter is low so the line isn't heavily utilised when the test is done, just lossy  Sad

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

SSDD, leaving this here to run.

The spikes in maximum and average are due to the line being pretty trivial to near-saturate.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

Chris,
Thanks for all the help so far.
At the moment the ticket is on hold until the 27th for the DLM run to complete. Not ideal, it's pretty poor and worked something like properly for 2 or 3 days since install on 22nd of July.
The loss is still there; a download from na3.salesforce.com showed it up quite badly - nearly an hour to download 195MB.

If after this it's still not working properly what's the next step? Is there one?

It's had a week, if anything things are now worse. Add to that just found some incorrect call charges and...  Cry

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

It doesn't look brilliant, I'm picking this up with our faults team who are contacting our suppliers about your line.
Regarding your call charges, I'd suggest putting the information in a ticket and we'll take a look at that.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

The erroring has stopped without any kind of intervention or resync since Friday evening.
This matches the previous weekend when the issue resolved on the Friday evening, however it returned on the Monday.
This time around that hasn't happened.
I will keep an eye on it, however it looks as though there is a source of noise which is constant throughout the week and goes away at the weekend. This source of noise was not present during the Bank Holiday and has not returned yet today.
if it does return I'll let you know, as the noise source is/was likely affecting many BT Wholesale customers. Hopefully a fault raised by someone else, perhaps the person whose line was carrying the noise in, has caused it to be resolved.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

And for our next trick. The modem resynched of its own volition earlier today 3 times, the first 2 times coming back with upstream speeds of 67kbps and 122kbps respectively.
It's just resynched twice in quick succession on me now and the last resync has come back with this:
Uptime: 0 days, 0:01:15
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.3
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 221 / 1.888
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 140,24 / 1,99
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,3 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 39,2 / 68,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 13,1 / 6,2
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 907 / 6
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 102 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 150 / 0

This appears to be a repetition of the earlier upstream instability fault that BT Wholesale reset a line card to resolve and claimed had been fixed. After of course initially claiming that there was no fault.
Not entirely sure VoIP is going to work too well with this:
Test Type: Voice over IP
Downstream Jitter: 43.3 ms
Downstream Loss: 0 %
Downstream Packet Order: 100 %
Upstream Jitter: 12.21 ms
Upstream Loss: 4.8 %
Upstream Packet Order: 100 %
Packet Discards: 3.36 %
MOS Score: 1.1

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

Well this is impressive.

Uptime: 0 days, 0:00:52
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.3
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 49 / 2.130
Yes that's 49 kilobits per second.
I'm going to have to reset the connection to try and get an upload speed high enough to use the connection to any degree.

Re: Poor VoIP / Slow Speeds - Stats Check

There's certainly something interfering with this, I'll pick this up with Lee who is looking after your fault as we need to progress this.
