PlusNet profile check?

I normally run between 4.0 and 5.5Mbps (currently 4768) on a lengthy rural line (56db). On a normal day I can d/l at around 400Kbytes/s and often use BBC iPlayer HD without issues.
We recently had line noise due to wet and windy weather (not uncommon) and the sync dropped to around 3.5Mbps but quickly recovered after the storm.
Running a BT Speedtest shows that the BT Profile has returned to 4.0Mbps but I've been consistently showing 2.8Mbps speedchecks (SpeedTest.Net and BT)
Does the PN profile take longer to reset or need a kick sometimes?

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi gngerbloke,
Your profile on our systems is set right account to your current sync speed(4768kbps). Is your connection you're using a wired or wireless one?
If you run a speed test via http://speedtest.btwholesale.com and click further diagnostics what results are you getting?.

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi Chris,
thanks for checking , that link you posted looks to be the same BT test I ran. I get the same rate (approx 2.8) whether I connect Ethernet or Wifi.
I've just followed the link and got :
Download Speed (Mbps) 2.45
Upload Speed (Mbps) 0.00
Ping Latency(ms) 119.13
The Upload figure is odd, as I'm definitely sending emails OK,etc. Also, I suspect 1930 in the evening is not really ideal time to run speed tests !
I'm running some routerstats to see if there's a 24 hour cycle or something odd going down.

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi Adam,
Can you run another test just interested to see if there's a big difference from last night?

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi Chris,
internet very poor tonight, even Youtube videos and iPlayer SD are stuttering (on PC and Smartphones)
Just run the test again from your link :
Download 2.31
Upload 0.37
Ping 79.75
Further test gives these numbers:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.31 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.77 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4 Mbps
I've attached a Routerstats SNR plot

Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.83 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3 Mbps

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi there,
Your connection seems to have been dropping a fair bit which has most likely caused that drop in line profile, are those disconnections anything you're aware of?

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi Adam,
I had not noticed that the router was resyncing as it seemed to sync at the same rate, but it's now only 3.6Mbps and only been up 14 hours.
My wife did say yesterday that the phone line has been noisy lately (incoming and outgoing), this sounds a bit like an old fault we had recurring - I'll raise a ticket.
Many thanks,
Adam

Re: PlusNet profile check?

Hi, just ran a quick line test on your phone service checking for noise and it didn't pick up anything, that's not to say it isn't there though. It probably would be faster to progress this as a phone fault if you do intend to call up, just a thought though.

Re: PlusNet profile check?

OK, I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes - my sync rate issues were being caused by a recently installed NAS drive being co-located next to the router. I had cause to switch it off this morning and my SNR jumped from just under 6 to over 11. Luckily, I was still plotting a routerstats graph.
I just reset the router and it synced up from 4.1 to 5.7Mbps.

Re: PlusNet profile check?

I was a bit surprised myself, but it's been solid since I moved the NAS (Synology) away from the router (Billion7800). It's been syncing much higher and I was getting 500+ Kbytes/s on downloads this morning.
