Plus Net to become a bank? - New customers only

Well I am trying to get my folks swapped from ADSL to fibre, what a laugh.
Well I rang up and asked about the 9 months at £12.50 followed by 9 months at £19.99 deal which is all over Plus Nets website and all the comparison sites.  This works out at an average of £16.245 a month over the period
I was told that they couldn't have this deal but they could have an 18 months contract at £16.99.  Well even those people who claim to be bad at maths can see that as an existing customer that it's a rubbish deal.
I have that bank advert in my head now

NEW customers only.

Re: New customers only

Hi Brabus,
you might want to advise them to have a word with our customer options team. Whereas we can't always match the offers for new and existing customers they should be able to arrange the closest possible deal we can offer.

As far as I'm aware, the offer should have been for £16.50/mnth for the life of the contract, not £16.99, although that's still a little above the new customer average admittedly.
