Pings now worse on Metronet Titanium service - Anyone else

HI - I'm getting significantly worse pings to my favourite flightsim server (Warbirdsofprey) over the last few days.
If it still exists, gaming packets were supposed to be prioritised on the Titanium service from Metronet and James did a good job of getting my packets recognised.
Anyone else seen a problem?

Hi Phoenix,
Could you possibly supply a traceroute and some ping requests to the server that you are trying to use?
You do do this by opening a command prompt and typing tracert server address and ping server address (using the IP address of the server in question.

Hi James, good to see you haven't been poached!

My game pings were typically ~95 (goodish) before I was Maxed, 110 (could live with this, no interleaving) after being Maxed, and now ~120-130 which is borderline.

Hi Phoenix,
I'll probably never leave Smiley
The traceroute you've supplied doesn't look bad.  The response time increase as soon as your traffic crosses the Atlantic, which is what you would expect.
Are there any UK servers that you can try?
What are your general broadband speeds like?  Are these as you would normally expect, or have they worsened?

In honesty, pinging a US based server, 100-175ms would sound about right.

Yes, but it is the consistent increase that disturbs me.

Yes, I've tried a UK one with a ping of about 40-odd ms, even there I get what seems to be an unusual amount of stuttering, almost as some packets are being delayed....
Now, my router reports that my connection is now interleaved  Cry - when I was Maxed my S/N target was set to 16dB and I asked not to be interleaved. Here is what has changed I suspect!
My router has downstream S/N margin of 12dB (24 db upstream) at a speed of 7616 kb/s.
I would rather have a lower bulk speed and no interleaving please James!
Thanks,

Hi there,
This was picked up by one of our nightshift staff last night.  Your order should complete on Monday morning, one working day from when it was placed.
Let us know how you get on then.

Interesting comparing my trace route with a nearish fellow flyer on Pipex to the same server:
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms my.router [192.168.1.1]
2 21 ms 22 ms 23 ms l1.ar02.gs1.dsl.pipex.net [62.241.161.244]
3 22 ms 21 ms 21 ms ge-2-1-3.cr02.gs1.dsl.pipex.net [62.241.161.106]
4 22 ms 21 ms 22 ms pc9-104.cr05.tn5.bb.pipex.net [62.72.139.113]
5 30 ms 29 ms 30 ms te1-4.cr01.nik.bb.pipex.net [62.72.137.250]
6 31 ms 29 ms 30 ms ams-sara-cor-1.peer1.net [195.69.145.209]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 120 ms 120 ms 119 ms 69-90-34-220.ny.atlasservers.com [69.90.34.220]

He goes via Amsterdam(!), but his link to peer1 is quicker.
James - look forward to trying it out on Monday.

Re: Pings now worse on Metronet Titanium service - Anyone else

what is a "ping"?
in simple terms please.....................
sorry ignore question - if it is to do with games - I don't do games [well, apart from scrabble, patience!]
why is it on this forum - shouldn't be on the games one?

Re: Pings now worse on Metronet Titanium service - Anyone else

jmd - most games do their own pinging with gaming packets as well. The two measurements do not always agree.
James - Now on Fast (non-interleaved) - much improved gaming, much less stuttering. Gaming pings down to 106-110ish  Grin
Thank you!

Re: Pings now worse on Metronet Titanium service - Anyone else

Weirdly, my bulk speed has gone up to 8128 kb/s and S/N margin down to 11 dB. I kind of expected a higher target S/N margin would go with non-interleaved.
