Ping Times

I recently moved from Eclipse to +net and am concerned about the times I'm getting from pings.
During the day (08:00 to 18:00), on Eclipse, the slowest I ever saw pinging the BBC was 86ms - it was typically consistent between 46 to 58ms. On +net I've never got lower than 82ms - typical times are around 120ms, with occasional 230ms periods. I'm running a Netgear DG834GT with the latest firmware. I normally use OpenDNS but get the same results (a ms or two quicker) when I let +net define the DNS.
Even now (23:50) ping time is 56ms - on Eclipse this would be in the low 40s.
Any thoughts?

Re: Ping Times

they look high for interleved path but request for iinterleaving to be turned off on your line. in member centre go to help asstitant then broadband connection then dslmax interleaving and asked for it to be turned off. on fastpath i get 16ms to bbc.co.uk

Re: Ping Times

Hi Ottmar,
Is this still happening?  I'd expect you to see ping speeds a bit lower than that even if you do have interleaving turned on.
Could you possibly show us a traceroute to the BBC to see if we can spot where the slow down is happening?

Re: Ping Times

I meant "SnotGobbler"!
ICMP is lower priority traffic, so ping times can go up if the network is busy. You weren't looking at the ping times when Andy Murray was on court by any chance?

Page display is much better this morning, but still noticeably slower than last week when I was using Eclipse.

Re: Ping Times

Thanks for those.
I've checked your line - which looks fine.
Are you running anything else which might be up/downloading data at the same time?
