Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

I imagine Plusnet would be checking the equivalent information for 21CN which they have available.

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

Fairly similar pattern on my graph in terms of packet loss, though not quite as dramatic as yours - always worse between 4pm and midnight.

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

I am expecting the next step to be a visit from an engineer who will come during the day, his jobsheet will say "Investigate Speed Fault".
Outcome will be "No fault found".

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

If you do
ping -t ntp.plus.net
do you see lost packets at any time of the day?

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

I'd straight up front greet him saying "Oh good, you're here to look at the packet loss" and don't discuss speed with him at all.
I'd also have a ping -t (not a pathping) running ready for when he arrives and show him the lost packets.
Does increasing the packet size affect the rate of loss?

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

The engineers aren't interested, Jelv. They just say 'mmm, hmmm' when you mention packet loss, then they say ''well I've completed the work I was asked to do.''

Seems much the same when using 32 bytes and 2048 bytes.
Have set up a TBB ping monitor on my neighbour's Sky LLU connection. It is showing no packet loss, mine is now near 20%.

Have tried different gateways, it made no difference to the packet loss.

Re: Packet loss in evenings, 21CN ADSL

@PeteB Have you got win mtr or  pingplotter ? both are free , and pingplotter will provide a visual of hopefully where the packet loss is occurring when you ping/tracert to various locations in the uk and overseas , this if it isn't  down to BT's wholesale links or Plusnets network  could be peering capacity  , as you have observed  a very small number of errors that would stand out to me that the problem wasn't  a line related problem between your home and exchange, if it was rein or similar, you would have loads of errors , it's got to be a network issue be it faulty kit somewhere or a problem with capacity /poorly balanced traffic load  the  level of packet loss appears to show a market increase during peak times and the associated levels of traffic , and the jitter (yellow/blue ) on the tbbqm also co insides with when the packet loss is at it's highest
But reading this forum and from personal experience  plusnet will always try and point the finger at your connection ,they are never as quick to accept that it could be down to their network, topology , or their masters BT wholesale, that's the impression that i get
