PPPOE disconnects frequently.

I have recently replaced an old TalkTalk WiFi router with a new setup.  Things look to be working well, except that I'm getting frequent PPPOE disconnections.

My new setup is

  • Draytek Vigor V120 v2 modem
  • Ubiquiti Edgerouter X

The disconnections don't appear to follow any pattern (e.g. every hour).  And when the connection drops the modem still shows aDSL up on the status LED.

I initially contacted PN via web chat, and they advised that the SNR settings were wrong, and that I should reboot my gear after 3 hours, and things would adjust.  However that has not resolved the issue, and if anything the disconnections seem more frequent.

I have raised a ticket with PN support, but no response yet (been a few days Sad )

At this point, I'm thinking that there must be either:

  • A config. issue.  possibly at my end, or PN
  • Or that I have faulty hardware

Any suggestions on how to home in on the fault would be very welcome.

Not sure it's related, but my broadband speeds increased 25-30% when I replaced the old router, possibly to the point where it became unstable?

Re: PPPOE disconnects frequently.

Fix

PPPOE is not the right configuration for UK; check PlusNet help pages/ e mail from PN with

configuration settings sent when opening a/c with PN.

Should be PPPOA.

Re: PPPOE disconnects frequently.

Thanks, I hadn't picked up upon that, however I believe that the V120 acts as a PPPOA/PPPOE bridge.  I will check that it is setup in this way.

Re: PPPOE disconnects frequently.

Got home last night, and my broadband was dead.  Changed from PPPOE to PPPPOA, rebooted the router and all's well now.  Thanks.

Not for some, as in this case. My connection details from PN at sign up, said NOT TO USE PPPoE/
Nonsense it is not. But you know best obviously.

it may say not to use it, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't work.
PPPoE works perfectly fine, assuming you know how to set it up correctly.

Re: PPPOE disconnects frequently.

Well, PPPOE certainly worked for me, but the disconnects disappeared after I set it to PPPOA.  Make of that what you will Smiley

Re: PPPOE disconnects frequently.

currently sitting just shy of 96 days up time.
so disconnections on PPPoE would suggest a config or line issue.
