Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

On the 17th Sept ,the PPPOE  session was dropped from one of the BNG gateways and iirc eventually re connected to Pcl 04 which showed the peak time latency hump and a higher base ping ,+3/4 ms  So nearly as bad as having interleaving on, and also the throughput level was lower then the bng gw
Why are some of the gw's differing in base latency and max throughput speeds , as well as some appearing to be affected by the affects of congestion  jacket loss and latency/jitter humps ?
Shouldn't they all offer the lowest level of latency and highest possible throughput without the peak time increases in latency and sometimes a reduction in throughput ? or do i expect too much, if i do then i'm sorry that i have come to expect the service levels  that ukonline delivered

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

The number of users per BNG gateway is still less than it was before 17th September - the BNGs currently have about 60k users each, before it was about 75k.
Either the network still hasn't got back into balance, or I suspect the problem with the BNGs hasn't been properly fixed yet, so the number of users per BNG gateway has to be kept down to avoid a repeat performance of the 17th.

had a similar issue at 17.10 tonight. Router log similar to last time although not for such a long period. Is it just me? Router says it has been up for 24 days!

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

Would like to let you know that I have my father connected. I succeeded when plusnet telephone support to him failed, because of being able to read all of the input from the guys on the forum. Thankyou

@ PhyllisTyne - Looks like you lost PPP, but not sync with the exchange.
@ StolenLife - Glad he got back online.

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

Doesn't the "xDSL Leave SHOWTIME ... xDSL Training ... xDSL Enter SHOWTIME" indicate that the DSL to the exchange did drop?

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

Thanks but not quite sure why it would happen. I got a lot of these during the outage on 17/9. Is it likely to be my end or PN?

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

I'm not aware of any issues affecting our network last night so any loss of PPP without a drop in sync (although as ejs has suggested, it looks like your sync did drop on this occasion) will be down to something more local.

My connection dropped for 5-10 minutes just after 0200 (see BQM), the modem didn't re-sync.

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

well the saga continues.
I had downtime last night due to BT wholesale maintenance.
After the downtime I was on a different gateway and I guess we all know what is coming from me.
I was on central 10 gateway ag07, I noticed youtube throughput was dodgy so did a speedtest.

not good.
Hopped and now on central10 ag03, new result.

Is not fun having to hop around because an isp has under invested.
It wasnt this bad before the plusnet outage, it would seem they have decided to not load the bng's so high now suggesting they havent fixed the issue that caused them to crash and as a result the other gateway's dont have enough capacity.  They havent appeared to have done the morale thing which is to (temporarily) increase the capacity of the other gateways to compensate.
Also I am observing I am always on central10 regardless of gateway.

Looks like my PPP dropped last night too at around 01:27:

Incidentally, the one day not covered by this Grin
I notice others in the Sheffield area experienced similar though, so I'm still looking at you Wholesale Wink

We'll look into it but it definitely shouldn't be happening looking at the capacity graphing:

Edit: I notice you're using your IPv6 test account? In light of my findings during the outage, I can't help but think this might be contributing to your problem. Both YouTube and ThinkBroadband are IPv6 enabled. Looking at your TBB test results, IPv6 transport wasn't used, however I'd still suggest you try ruling out IPv6 by connecting using your normal login credentials.

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

the youtube and tbb speedtest were both over ipv4.  I have had ipv6 disabled on youtube for a few weeks and on tbb. After hopping gateway the last day its been much better.  So its not due to ipv6 routing but the other gateway I was on.  Or if you say its due to BTw routing then get BTw to fix it.
