kitz you sure is congestion?

There's something for sure - look at my BQM generated over the past 24hrs.
Previously I was on lo0.12.central12.ptw-bng01.plus.net [195.166.128.172] - which has been a nice green flat line for over a week.
I auto came back up at 7.30 on lo0-central10.pcl-ag07.plus.net.  That was showing definite signs of congestion so I switched gateways at about 12:30am
Am now on lo0.11.central11.ptw-bng01.plus.net [195.166.128.171]

Quote
thats one of the 3 gateways with low users I expect those gateways are probably now set to take 95% or more of all new connections to rebalance.

Yep.. thats what I thought too and I checked that last night.. in fact double checked to make sure I hadnt read it wrong.
However...  notice that although Im on the ptw-bng01 gateway - note the different central pipe and different ip...  so although I may be on the same gateway - Im on a different central pipe and its possible that some of those may be more congested that others?
Whilst Im no longer showing red dropped packets... Those yellow spikes for increased latency certainly arent me.

------------------
As an aside... note also that the routing is different... and although both the following connections are via the ptw-bng01 gateway, they go to my server via a different peer point.

By removing the quote you have made this post completely irrelevant so you may as well delete this one as well as the one berating Plusnet that I was trying to defend.

You seem to have a problem with your browser, if you press the up arrow or turn the scroll wheel on the mouse, or drag the scroll bar in the right hand margin you should be able to very easily see the immediately preceding post.
(Note that the forum rule linked in the moderators note specifically says it only applies to the immediately preceding post - with an exception if your post is on a new page when you can't just scroll up)
The rule is there to stop huge posts containing quotes that are just not needed when people are reading down the page of posts.

the mods are a little over zealous with this though IMO
IMO there's nothing wrong with using a quote when it's justified even if it is immediately after the post in question.
you may be quoting just one particular part of a post for example.

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

Well it was working but since I went out and came home I've had no joy at all, the router seems to have gone into apoplexy, rebooting itself and when it is working it takes ages to respond to any requests. Looks like a factory reset might be the only option, which is a pain as I will lose all my custom settings. Why on earth is this happening?
Edit: I have just gone back to my ZyXEL router that I had before getting a TG582n (for reasons I'm not allowed to say here :)) and everything is fine. It was an absolute joy how fast it connected compared to the TG582n.

Better, perhaps, and within the rules, to quote the specific part of the preceeding post to which you are referring if you feel that such clarity is required:

I'm assuming here, of course, that you originally quoted the full preceeding post as per the moderator's note.

Re: PPP dropped unable to authenticate - 18.00 on 17th Sept 2014

I would be interested to know if this most recent outage was caused by the same issue as the previous one or two. If so, I'm guessing the blame will be put onto the equipment vendor.
Also, what changed from when the bng gateways used to operate with about 50,000 users each, but more recently they get up to about 75,000 users each?

you may be quoting just one particular part of a post for example.

Highlighting part of a long post which you are addressing by a part quote is specifically allowed.
Its full quotes that are totally unnecessary and are banned.

... if plusnet cannot cope with congestion then I am off to other isp probably zen fibre........ This is the third times plusnet issues this month.

Zen are also upgrading the edge routers - Not to dissimilar to PN's Vendor equipment Wink  Zen are also not immune as their recent 7 hour outage highlighted.
The most disappointing aspect to this the "switch the router off and go away for 2 hours"  message that 7up  paraphrases the feeling well.  Sad
