I've just visited a forum that I frequent only to be presented with a typical domain / search page instead of the real forum page that I can still see via a proxy.
Anyone having similar issues?

Is it only that 1 site you can't get to? Have you tried a different browser at all?
There could be multiple reasons for this, including them not allowing ranges of IPs to visit their site or just a simple routing error along the way.
Unfortunately there isn't much more I can say without additional details (feel free to PM me or put them in a ticket and I'll get someone to look).

I doubt that somehow, I visit very few sites to be honest. I only visit about 7-8 sites per day and its the same ones each day.

You do not even paste the url.
If you ever want to test a site just stick it into
http://www.pingdom.com/
It will show you
Another option is to use tracert to see the router path
DNSLookup
Will help (use /? once in
Many people use their PC's with an Admin account, visiting any website can then infect you often even if you have AV, then you have to clean up the mess.
If they edit your hosts file they can redirect you but it may be that the site you are trying to visit is infected and it is doing the redirect, a common ploy to get traffic.

Sorry for not posting the url publicly, I had my reasons (and fyi I know how to test / lookup domains etc but as I understood it, the thing was registered for 10 years! - Clearly I was wrong!)

They will probably renew or it will get nabbed, 72 odd days and you will know.
I am sure the peeps at Plusnet will have a happier weekend know thet have not been hijacked.
Google is even showing warnings in the results now.
