Outlook express time outs

For most of today, Outlook express has been returning the following error message:
Quote
Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?

This repeats several times until it, eventually gives up at whcih point I get
Quote
A time-out occured while communicating with the server. Account '###', sever 'mail.froce9.net, Protocol POP3, Port:110, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

It is true for all my accounts and yet I can still access them via webmail
I've not changed any settings at my end, so wonder if something has changed at PN/F9, or if others are having problems.

Re: Outlook express time outs

Reboot both PC and router and see if the problem still exists.

Emphasis mine in the above quote
Is this a typo in your forum post, or is this exactly what you see?
Server should be mail.force9.net not mail.froce9.net

Re: Outlook express time outs

Sorry that's a type on my part. it is force9 and, as I said, was working until late last night.
Since when I've rebooted twice which includes the broadband modem (no router) which made no difference.

Re: Outlook express time outs

1)  Do you use Zonealarm, or another firewall package?
2)  Did your machine install any "Windows Updates" last night?
The 0x800CCC19 error means the connection to the remote host timed out.  I suspect you may have fallen foul of this problem.

Re: Outlook express time outs

I have Windows Update set to manual, so although I've been notified of the patch mentioned in those reports I haven't installed it (and probably won't now)
However, everything seems to be working now! Go figure!
