Ouch!

Hi folks,
I thought that down loads were taking a long time, did anyone get the 20 file updates yesterday? for me a few HOURS on so-called Broadband. Looked this morning and what did I find, 129kbs!!! download on My Broadband. After the disaster on Dec 8th, my speeds have crept up to be fairly steady around 1400ish  over months. I have not looked at Voyager 210 yet but will do so shortly. Has anyone else  been bitten by this bug?Huh

Re: Ouch!

Back on the 17th, your router reconnected at 160kbps. Hence your IP profile has dropped and you're seeing low speeds now. Try rebooting your router during daylight hours and take a look at what the downstream sync shows, if it's an improvement on 160 then your profile should increase accordingly after 72 hours.

Re: Ouch!

Thanks Chris.
Router rebooted. Before that, I looked at the stats;-
5 Feb 10  Download                                                  25 Feb10  Download (All upload not very different.)
Line Rate                      2144kbs                                160kbs
Noise margin                  12.9dB                                  23.0dB
Line Atten                      39.0dB                                  38.0dB
O/P Power                    16.6dBm                              11.2dBm
K(DMT frame)                68                                          6
R(check bytes RS code) 12                                        16
S(RS code DMT frame)    2                                          16
D(Interleaver depth)          8                                          1
Are these useful?

Re: Ouch!

Its me again!
Rebooting has given me a line rate  1856kbs, Noise Margin  15.6db  O/P power 15.9 dBw
So that is a bit better.  What mught have happened on the 17th do you think?

Re: Ouch!

Could have been just about anything!.... a sudden burst of interference, like a machine switching on/off heavy current, and a spike appears on the BT systems. looks like a whole bunch of trouble coming your way, so BT system drops the line and your speed drops accordingly.... stable since then and it takes time for the BT system to recuperate... your re-boot, just jogs the system along a bit... but don`t be too hasty and only do it once a day, during daylight hours, ..... if you must ! ! ! ....

Re: Ouch!

Thanks to you as well. I will leave well alone but will keep an eye on progress. I must say that keeping the router on 24/7 seems to have kept it on the rails. Never the less I still have not got back to my best speeds many moons ago. No changes of kit here to confuse the system over the whole period.

Re: Ouch!

Hi folks!
A relapse of original performance. I go away for the weekend and what do I find?  Back to abysmal I am afraid! Can't be more exchange problems can it???

Re: Ouch!

Still stuck!  Down 672Kbs Up 448Kbs on both 17 & 19 March. Mybroadband (cannot raise BT at all) Graph looking like Alps!! No local MUXs. What is going on. It appears that there was a drop-out on or about the 14th.

Re: Ouch!

Looking at your connection logs you've been connected straight for over 4 days, you aren't likely to see the sync speed change unless you reboot your modem/router at least once. Try it and see what the sync speed shows, if it's higher then the profile will lift in line with that again.

Re: Ouch!

Your profile is back at 2000 now and your syncing at 2336, hopefully you're seeing better performance again now.

Thanks Chris. Router agrees with your figure, the best for many months I am glad to say. Hope it keeps up or better.

Re: Ouch!

Chris.
Managed to get bt at last (my time a bit limited, not theirs) DSL Con Rate 2336Kbps Down, 448Kbps Up Like what you found
Achieved speed 1717Kbps  Profile 2000Kbps. Seems to be holding up despite another drop-out a day ago. All looking good I hope.
Only found that Noise margin now has dropped from around 23.8db (when things were dire) to 15.3 for some reason.
