One of the more *obscure* reasons for slow internet

Hi all
I've just 'discovered an odd cause of slow BB. Not sure if it's been mentioned before but when you go into 'Parental Control' and 'check' the box that says 'Use Address Based Filtering' and hit 'Apply', that's the reason why you can experience really slow opening of web pages.
Untick the box and everything should be back to normal. That's what happened to me.
Thought I'd let you guys know in case you're stumped with speed problems Smiley

As a guess!
Edit: I'm sure we've seen posts on here before about this slowing things up.

Could be - it appears to be disabled by default as I am sure I didn't disable it

Where do you have that option

If you go into the router (via 192.168 etc..), the option is in the 'Toolbox' area.

Found two places where it has cropped up before:

As a side issue I see that something disabled my Plusnet Firewall - now moved back to Low

It seems it something the products team are aware of, not great that it slows web browsing so much I know. I guess we need to weigh our options up for it.

Are CSC aware? If not they should be!

Re: One of the more *obscure* reasons for slow internet

Also being discussed Address Based Filtering Technicolor TG582n FTTC slows down fibre.
Testing so far seems to show speeds are limited to 7.01 Mbps downstream & 0.5Mbps upstream.
However multi-threading allows faster speeds. ie 2 threads = 14Mbps, 4 threads = 28Mbps etc.
7.01 Mbps seemed a little strange to me, particularly since that is the IP rate for adsl1.

Is it possible PN will remove the 'Parental Control' option to resolve the issue ?
I really hope not because it's a really good feature.

Re: One of the more *obscure* reasons for slow internet

I think Ive just broken my internet by testing the parental controls.
I came to the PN forums because I am having dreadful DNS type problems tonight..  and I cant view webpages via my ipad, they just sit there waiting to load.
Ive changed to google DNS on the PC but it doesnt make much difference and things are still really slow to load, thats if the page does load.
Ive took the settings back to how they were before I changed the parental controls, but Im still having issues.
---
nvm - sorted.  Had to do a resync of the modem, not just the Tg582n.
Without doubt that setting can cause not only speed issues, but DNS like symptoms too.
