Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

am I being slowed down? As my download speed only ever seems to be 32 mb/s the BT guy told me my line will support 80meg I am not happy with this slow speed because when I signed up plusnet you told me I would get in the region of 70 meg. This is less than half of what I was told I would get!

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

Hi there,
I'm unable to see any obvious causes for that after running a few checks so I'd advise raising a fault so we can investigate that further for you.

Are you testing via a wired or wireless connection? If wireless, then you need to test via a wired connection for a more representative result.

I can see you've raised a fault, did you try the PPPoE connection?

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

I have just done a PPPoE test the result is 66.14 Meg download and upload 15.09 meg, which is a lot better, so does that mean my plus net route is faulty?

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

It would point toward the router, yes.
Have you tried the router again to see if it any different, if it's a lot slower via the router we may need to get another out to you.

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

I only ever manage to get around 30mb on my wireless connection (even though I've got a 300Mb/s router hooked up). If I use a dongle I get closer to my connection speed but my speed tests will always max out at around 28-32Mb on wireless.
If you try the wired connection on the router, don't forget to disable the onboard wireless on the laptop / computer as it may still be using that rather than the router LAN ports.

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

I have just done a few more tests both with ethernet cable and wirelessly, it is now even worse at just 6.74 Meg download 13.10 upload that is worse and I was getting with standard broadband. Please sort this out as soon as possible as I am paying for a service that is not been provided.

I've arranged a router to be sent to you, this will be with you this week. There'll also be a returns bag for the faulty router.

Re: Not happy with speed, am I being slowed down?

I done what you said on the phone reset the router re-entered my login details, ethernet directly from laptop to plus net router now 66 Meg, but wireless is still only producing 33 Meg even though it is the latest N technology why is that?
