Re: Noise Margin

no mate, it's a bt2700hgv, and it says how long it's been on for and current connection time, but with all the gateway hopping i do (to get a decent ping) i cant take it as uptime.

Re: Noise Margin

When you gateway hop do you reboot the router or do you do a disconnect/reconnect via the router interface which drops the PPP session while staying in sync with the exchange?

no mate, it's a bt2700hgv,

Yes it does!, as long as its not powered off if will record the time and stats for each connection ( resynch ) on the 'DSL diagnostics' page. If its got version 5 f/w then you can get the stats at http://home/xslt?PAGE=J42 ( you will need the system password ), if its version 6 then I believe you get to it via Broadband -> DSL diagnostics.
In the training history section of the page it records, for each resynch,  the end time , initial and current SNR margin , speeds and error stats.
See attached example which indicates a resynch at 2009/11/07 18:12:06 ( since that's when the first connection ended ), a resynch at 2009/11/14 18:40:14, and the current ongoing connection with todays date/time.
You can also see details of any resync in the 'detailed log' ( http://home/xslt?PAGE=J34 on v5 ).

Re: Noise Margin

had a telephone engineer here today , he rewired my nte5, he said that A and B wires were the wrong way around.  would that have been causing the problem?

I think its '2wire' for the singtel f/w. This site http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm is the best place for info on the 2700 this page might be useful http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/052.htm

Re: Noise Margin

I'll check tomorrow , one of my colleagues is running singtel f/w, I'll check with him about system passwords. I'm afraid both of my 2700's are running BT firmware!

Tried to raise a fault, but the options were speed or no connection  Crazy
Edit: I'll leave router stats on tonight, have resynced at 4672.

Re: Noise Margin

I have managed to hold sync at that speed, do you think it would be worth me getting a netgear dg834gt as they are know for holding sync at low noise margins?

Sorry about the delay, but I've now checked with him and his password is definitely '2wire'.

Re: Noise Margin

I have bought a netgear dg834gt, hopfully it will remain connected at the low noise margin's unlike the bt2700hgv
