Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

Hmmm, might consider Gateway hopping later as I'm supposedly on a congested Gateway, although I don't have a throughput problem at the moment or a latency issue.
It doesn't help us to decide on such things mind, when the graphs at http://www.plus.net/support/service/network_performance/broadband_bandwidth_usage.shtml aren't updated. The "Collated Users Online" hasn't been updated since 1800 yesterday, and the other graphs haven't been working or updated for months and months at least.
And of course http://www.plus.net/support/service/network_performance/broadband_packets_drop.shtml apart from the number of graphs being incomplete, none of them have worked for well over a year!

Because it's the 20CN lines to the gateway that are congested, not the gateway itself?

Could be but I thought that the "new" PN network used a handful of 10GB host links which replaced the old centrals.
I suppose it could a host link, shared between a number of gateways, that is overloaded rather than the gateways?

In simple terms each line re[presents a port.  So the 20CN port on a gateway is congested, but the 21CN port on the same gateway isn't.

@ PlusComUK,
you likely need to check that your router is not blocking incoming ping requests (i.e that it will respond), otherwise the graph will be all red.

Yes, thanks, I read that in the FAQ's, here we go .....
"   1. Login to your router via telnet. If you do not know how to do this please follow the Telnet session guide (pdf, 2.6 MB) in the manual on page 21.
  2. Type "service system ifadd name PING_RESPONDER group wan" into the command prompt and press enter
"

Ok, sussed it so far, typed Telnet into Terminal.
Then pasted the command line as above

What do I do now to finish, I just closed the terminal window.
Update: "saveall" as per later posts

I think you need to type "saveall" (minus quotes) on the next line of your telnet session. You'll have to repeat the previous steps.

Try saveall in lower case
In any case all saveall does is to save the current configuration

Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

The saveall command only saves it for when you reboot the router - otherwise the changes would be lost on a reboot.
You can't add the ping_responder a second time
if you want to input it a second time you would need to remove it first using the service system ifdelete command

Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

I've finally sussed it, to remove then re-add service system ifadd name=PING_RESPONDER group=wan
{admin}=>service system ifdelete name=PING_RESPONDER group=wan
{admin}=>saveall
{admin}=>service system ifadd name=PING_RESPONDER group=wan
{admin}=>saveall
{admin}=>exit
Connection closed by foreign host.

Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

@piperhols
That fault was cleared on the 18th. Run the BT speedtester (Diagnostic Test not the Beta one) and see what it gives for for IP Profile.
Also Try the Thinkbroadband speedtester if that last result came from the BT one. It is giving borked results for some people at the moment, but the Beta version is a bit more reliable.
If that's similar to the Current Line speed, you haven't gone over your usage limit for your package have you?
If you are within usage limits and not getting better speedtest results, then try a Gateway hop.

Hi piperhols,
It looks like your traffic management profile is incorrectly set. There's nothing I can do until the morning I'm afraid, but I'll sort it in the morning.

Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

Ah perfect thankyou.
I've recently also upgraded my router in which I've seen an increase in my Downstream rate by almost 1500Kbps. Would my IP Profile automatically update or would this be something you'd be able to look into?
Thanks

Re: No Internet & NO Internet light on router Thursday 19th April 4pm

You'll probably need to run the BT Speedtest (Diagnostic) to see the reported IP Profile for your line. If you are leaving your modem/router on you could do it now, otherwise leave it until the morning and post the results for Jojo to see.
