Re: No Consistency

Slow data transfer could be down to exchange congestion of local interference causing a high level of data retransmissions.
Are you on ADFSL or fibre (I suspect ADSL at those speeds!).
If ADSL, please following the information gathering requirements found in the "slow speeds problem" thread at the top of this forum.

Re: No Consistency

Thanks for your reply I am ADSL I hope it is the exchange I was told by the BT engineer that I am some distance from the Southgate exchange regarding the slow speed problems in this forum I find it hard at my age to cope with this technology.

Re: No Consistency

Hi valart,
I've just been doing a few checks against your connection. One thing that struck me is that there's been a few drops of late. Just wondering if some of these might be down to yourself turning the router off/back on?

Re: No Consistency

Thanks for your reply I have  turned my router off twice  in that period of time that was when the broadband light was red and was unable to connect  my download speed today is 9.02 which in my case back to normal,I got a new router from you some weeks ago I just wondered if it is worth changing if it happens again.

Re: No Consistency

There are quite a few disconnects on the RADIUS graph - are you able to find and post your router stats please?  The "speed issues" thread at the top of this forum provides guidance on doing this.

Re: No Consistency

Spot on!
The DS synch is much lower than the line's attenuation might suggest the line could deliver, the reason for which is beyond my experience to speculate on - the SNRM is very low (not in itself a problem) and the DS error rate is very low too, which is all good!
The US synch rate is very high (which would normally be good) but the reported US error rates are horrible - high error rates will require a lot of recovery (retransmissions) thereby slowing down the data transfer rate.  The reported US error rates are also suspicious as they are identical... and looking at it as a binary number is minus 31.  Makes me wonder if the modem is suspect!
Are you connected to the master socket?
Is there any noise on the phone line - dial 17070 option 2 - the line should be silent
Do you have any phone extensions?  If yes, how are they wired to the master socket?  Do all of the extension phones have filters?
Can you try a new filter on the router?
Do you have another router?

Re: No Consistency

The router goes into the master socket which is filtered which the BT engineer installed last year there is no noise on my line I have no phone extensions and I do have another router

Re: No Consistency

Does your Master Socket have a Test Socket behind it at all?
A low(ish) sync rate could be caused by the in-built filter. If you could check for us, that'd be great.

Re: No Consistency

I think there is a outlet for the test socket and the engineer who installed said at the time that there was no need for a  filter the main socket is filtered

Re: No Consistency

Would you be able to connect with a microfilter into the Test Socket?
Although the engineer said that, I'd be inclined just to check that the socket isn't causing any issues, just to be sure.

Re: No Consistency

I have not tried the filter in the test socket y but I have noticed that when i use my laptop donstairs where my router is I seem to have no disconnections it seems when I use my laptop upstairs so I can plug into my speakers to listen to music thats when I have random disconnections it does seem that way unless it's down to luck.

Re: No Consistency

It'd be good just to try things out whilst connected into the Test Socket as the disconnections seem to be caused y something or other - we're just trying to see if we can find out what.
