Hi
Can someone advise please.
Have not been able to connect to my Plusnet newsgroup account
today, are the news groups working ok.
My Plusnet e-mail is working fine, just no news groups working.
When clicking on a football news group or similar after few seconds get this message.
Configuration:
Account: news.plus.net
Server: news.plus.net
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc0e
I am useing outlook express 6.
Are there any setup guides on Plusnet for news group settings in outlook express ?,have found one
for email settings on plusnet site, but mail working ok.
I have not changed anything I know of,but have installed a newer version of
Nortons internet security, but thays not blocking anything to do with group that
I can see.
Thanks.
Barry

Hi Bob
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes,all groups on the plusnet server,am subscribed to approx a dozen and none will
connect to server.
Just tried again and this time got message.
A tcp/ip error occurred while tring to send data to the server,
clicking details gives
Configuration:
Account: news.plus.net
Server: news.plus.net
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc0e
Normally get message: unable to connect to server when trying other times.
Also have Microsoft groups I am subscribed to and thease are working fine.
Have unistalled Nortons internet security and that not help at all.
I was useing the caravan newsgroup last night -late and was fine then, posted a Q
in that group and looked to day for replies but no work.
Have tried setting up more plusnet news accounts but none will work.
It's got me buggered.

You are connected via a PlusNet connection aren't you?
What happens if you try telnetting to the server?
Open a command window by clicking Start > Run, typing 'cmd' (minus the quotes) and click Enter. In the command window that appears type:
After pressing Enter you should get something like this:
Next select one of the groups you're having problems with like so:
This should return:
Knowing at which stage the above process fails (assuming it does) might help pinpoint where the problem lies.

Hi Bob.
Thanks for that,thats a bit techy ;D.
However have managed to sort it now, first tried
system restore which for once worked a treat.
Tested news and all was well then after about 15mins it stopped working again.
Finally found the reason, turned out to be peerguardian 2 for some reason, had
it installed for for some time and always be ok before,it was blocking the HTTP
side of things, tried making to allow the server connection but no go.
Sorted by unistalling peerguardian/downloaded new again/installed and all ok now again.
Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Barry.
