New to Plusnet: Email Account Question

Signed up today - moved from Pipex
Playing with my mailbox options and don't seem to be able to receive/send emails.  All account options are set correctly
I think I'm being a bit thick though... does my router need to be connected using the Plusnet settings?  It's obviously still using Pipex login details until i get my Plusnet ones.
Sorry - probably a silly question but it's late now and brain has frozen!

Your router does not need to be logged into a PlusNet broadband account to receive mail. However unless you use authenticated SMTP is does have to be connected this way to send mail.
