New on Unlimited, all traffic, all day, full line speed

Hi
i’m moving over to PN in a few days (hoping that i can get moved before friday, but waiting for the lift n shift)

okay at the moment i’ve gone for ADSL2+ Plusnet Unlimited all traffic, all day, at full line speed
now after i joined i find a “addon” called “Pro Add On” that says it Upgrades your service to a top-class prioritised connection.
What?, i paid for full line speed, no TM
is this an old out of date addon from before PN went unlimited, or for the essentials package only that does not apply? (if so why am I being offered it)
Thanks,

Re: New on Unlimited, all traffic, all day, full line speed

There is a difference between traffic management which just gives different priorities to different kinds of traffic, while allowing any type of traffic to run at full line speed if there isn't any higher priority traffic, and traffic management which slows different kinds of traffic down to arbitrary speed limits.

The Pro add-on will have minimal effect (if any at all) on Unlimited, yes, it's really a legacy thing.
All customers can choose to pay an extra £5 if they really want to.  Crazy

Re: New on Unlimited, all traffic, all day, full line speed

Wow that was fast  Smiley
Thanks guys
So for gaming, it may or may not lower my ping
on my old ADSL1 (with exchange 20cn problems) I had pings of 27 to 50 for most uk based games
and the BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test pings at 40
So you guys get pings of that range, with or without the addon?
Not a big problem if it doesn't make much difference as i'm the slow part in the gaming link anyway

I very much doubt you'd notice the effect of the Pro Add-on on pings. For a pictorial comparison of what it does select "Plusnet Unlimited" and "Pro Add-on" in the UserGroup Product Comparison Tool.
You will probably be provisioned with upstream capped at 448kbps. Once your service is live, depending on your downstream sync speed you might find it beneficial to request upstream be uncapped.

Re: New on Unlimited, all traffic, all day, full line speed

Thanks for that.
I'll look out for the upstream cap
I would like to host small minecraft, BF2 (AIX2 mod) servers for my Son
and the more up the better
on my old ADSL1 before a fault messed it up, I was getting sync 8128 448 and throughput of 7.4 LA 30dB NM 10
after the fault, all was the same, but the throughput was 3 (same time PN exchange status showed my exchange had adsl1 problems)
i'm hoping for ADSL2+ DS at something like 15-17 and US at max ADSL2+ speeds

Downstream sync might be closer to the lower end of the range you mentioned, perhaps more if the DLM decides to try 3dB target SNRM. Upload sync speed should be around 1Mbps.
