Hi, I've been configuring an Asus DSL-N55U on my plusnet but can only establish a G.DMT connection, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ will not connect.
I know my exchange is 21cn (New Mills - Cabinet 9) but wonder if I've been left on a 20cn connection as I'm on quite a long line and I've never synced over 8Mbps.
Is it possible to have my line moved over to 21cn hardware?
Cheers
Dave

Did another modem/router connect successfully using ADSL2/2+?
I think there's a problem with some Asus devices including the DSL-N55U, they can't handle a 3dB target SNRM on ADSL2/2+. In general, though the wireless router aspects of the Asus devices may make them popular, the DSL modems they use aren't so good.

I just used the plusnet technicolor before this but I do know that it never achieved over 7.6-7.8Mbps.
I always assumed it was down to line length but since getting the Asus it has made me wonder if my line is only ADSL1 because of the sync speed.
Cheers

You could put the Technicolor back on and check the DSL stats:
G.992.1 = ADSL1
G.992.3 = ADSL2
G.992.5 = ADSL2+
Plusnet do (or at least did) have a policy of setting lines to ADSL1 only based on estimated speed, but for speeds lower than yours.

The technicolor says it's using ADSL2+
Mode: | ADSL_2plus | |||
Traffic Type: | ATM | |||
Status: | Up | |||
Link Power State: | L0 | |||
Downstream | Upstream | |||
Line Coding(Trellis): | On | On
SNR Margin (1 dB): | 2.3 | 4.5
Attenuation (1 dB): | 48.5 | 26.5
Output Power (1 dBm): | 20.3 | 12.2
Attainable Rate (Kbps): | 7808 | 1088
Path 0 | Path 1 | |||
Downstream | Upstream | Downstream | Upstream
Rate (Kbps): | 7470 | 684 | 0 | 0 |
Maybe the SNR was a bit high for the Asus as you said, I thought it may have been more than coincidence that my connection never exceeds 8Mbps.
Cheers
