Re: New install, slow speeds.

@Townman - The best thing we can do in each instance is to pass feedback on as agents should know that the upstream should be uncapped upon ordering. There are very few mistakes made overall and unfortunately such mistakes can and do happen, we'll continue to pass feedback on though to ensure that any mistakes that are made are kept to a minimum.
@Josh1821 - We're still seeing a large number of drops on your line as seen below:

Would you be able to connect an alternative microfilter in the first instance and see how things are for an hour or two?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Different micro filter has already been tried, as has the test socket. I'm actually posting from my phone at the moment because I can't connect to the forums over the BB. My setup is identical to my previous provider and although I was maybe disconnected 2 or 3 times a week I was never stuck with 25k internet. It's painful to use. What should I do next?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

I appreciate that it's painful to use, if you could visit http://faults.plus.net and complete the Fault Checker, we'll get our Faults Team to take a look over the line for you and get this sorted out.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Thanks, just going through that now. I don't have a home phone to do a noise test though, I haven't used one for nearly a decade now, is there a way around this?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

That's fine, select the option to say that you've done it - if a phone fault is found to be the root cause, we may request that you get/borrow a phone to test the line further though.
It is best if you can borrow a phone to test, just to be on the safe side.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

I'm unable to test a new router unless it's possible to try with the old Sagem F@ST 2504 Sky router I have, as far as I'm aware this would not work right?
PS is there a reason why my ISP listed through speedtest.net sometimes changes from PlusNet Technologies to INFONET Services Corporation?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Yes, PN acquired a bank of IP addresses previously belonging to INFONET.  The RIPE database ownership records have only part been updated, with the consequence that geodata and name are incorrect.
This problem has been known about for a few weeks.
Given that you are on a dynamic IP service, speedtest.net will reflect the "owner" of the IP you have at the time of the test.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Interesting, thanks for the clarification!
EDIT: Ok, quite a strange development. I plugged in the Sky router to see what happened and I've reconnected to sky broadband, acheiving 800kb/s download speed. As far as I'm aware this should have been de-activated on Wednesday, could this be the cause of the problem or more to do with the router? Speedtest.net is showing no problems whatsoever, apart from the connection drops that aren't really hindering in any way I think this rules out my internal wiring and set up as the cause.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Called Sky, after 20 minutes of them trying to keep me as a customer they insisted the BB was disconnected on the 28th of last month, obviously this is not the case. Is it possible that 2 connections are coming down the phone line and PN is getting the worst of it?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Sky and Plusnet don't use the same equipment in the exchange Sky have their own so I don't see how this would be possible.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

This is rather strange then, I'm going to keep Sky plugged in for now because it's impossible to do any work on the PN connection at the minute.

Re: New install, slow speeds.

The connection that you're using is Plusnet:

Is everything working as expected now?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Does this point to a faulty router?
Is that router a PN supplied one?

Re: New install, slow speeds.

Potentially. It will be interesting to know how the connection is performing from Josh1821's perspective.
If the router is faulty, it can be replaced.
