Re: New Router Attenuation

Put your post code only (not telephone number) in here and it will give an indication of minimum line length http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php

Re: New Router Attenuation

1.76km direct
1.93 by road
Although looking at the map I'm nearer than that as I'm the first house in the street and closest to the exchange.

Re: New Router Attenuation

Which would seem to indicate that the lower attenuation is more correct but then the speeds are far too low
The one thing we haven't suggested is trying the test socket with nothing else connected.
Can you try that and report the stats
Also try a different cable if you have one

Re: New Router Attenuation

According to google maps I'm exactly a mile away by road from the exchange.
I'll try the router in the test socket but having the router there permanently is not an option for me.
I've got a new fancy Dan cable coming from ADSL Nation so will install that.

Re: New Router Attenuation

Ha Ha - it's not a 'Dan Cable', it's a cable that's Fancy Dan (local colloquialism)

@Oldjim - I've an i-plate fitted to my master socket - is plugging into this equivalent to plugging into the test socket?

Re: New Router Attenuation

Can't get the i-plate off so that test is scuppered.

Re: New Router Attenuation

Plug it directly into the iPlate as that will take out all your internal wiring which is the aim of using the test socket

Re: New Router Attenuation

@Oldjim - I did that and the stats were almost identical (have put it back so can't post the numbers)
