Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

If BT are going to move to the process of setting the profile to be 88% of your sync speed, then you can figure out what the donwload speed reported by the speed tester should be.

88.2% the 0.2% make a difference.
PN are still using the old profiles which I believe will change in October.

Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

It's the VERY long delay at the start, when using the standard BT speed tester, that hacked me off....!  Angry

But the whole point of the speed test is the direct comparison between the profile and the reported download speed.
Best guess shouldn't enter into it.

Why can't PN change to new profile NOW! Why wait till October ?

The relevant reply, I think, is this one. Only 21 pages if you want to read the saga in full.

Haha.
& its still not quite over yet.
Paul.
EDIT: One of the visisting engineers actually told me he could get sacked if he showed me my own connection stats on his JDSU & he only verbally gave me part of the information.
Why all the secrecy?
Surely BT would want us to celebrate the fantastic speeds & stability available via FTTC & why oh why have they hobbled their modem, that you have to use, from obtaining your own stats?

I can think of a couple of reasons. The first being development constraints, and the second being the fact that our profiles are configured based on 'Line Speed Delta Reports' that are sent to us via BT Wholesale's reporting systems. At the moment, these reports are still being sent using the rounded IP Profiles, even on exchanges where bRAS quantisation is in place.
Edit: @Baldeagle1, not sure if it's been mentioned in that thread or not but it seems somebody has already gone some way towards hacking the line stats out of the BT VDSL modem (I obviously don't condone doing this, have no personal experience of it and am not even sure of the legalities!)
