1. Should I leave the router on all the time ? (I use to switch off the Thomson router after browsing Internet or shutting down my computer).
2. The Netgear router runs hot (maybe not as hot as the Thomson router). Is that normal?

1) As far as leaving it on goes, the usual recommendation is yes, but it depends on your stats as to what you can get away with.
Post up some daytime stats for starters, and then some tonight.
2) May sure it's well ventilated.

That illustrates the confusion:
Quote
Username is as per https://portal.plus.net/m...mp;action=refresh_browser ?

That is not the correct login username for broadband. That username is my account username i.e. my_username
The correct login username for broadband is as AndyH linked to here:
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/broadband-connection-settings.shtml
The correct login username for broadband is:
my_username@plusdsl.net

There's something wrong here. When I go to https://portal.plus.net/my.html?s=0&action=refresh_browser I am presented with a table. The first section is labelled "Always on broadband xDSL ". The third entry in there is Login name and it says xxx@plusdsl.net. Is that not what you see?

No. That link takes me to the Plusnet Member Centre webpage i.e. the Customer Login to login to your Plusnet account. The dialog box shows:
Username:
Provider:
Password:
I'm using Opera browser. Same when I use Firefox.

Logging in to the portal on that page should then take you to the linked page. If it doesn't, after you've logged in, leave the browser open and try the link again.

Ah. Thank you. Now I see what you saw!
I noticed the Netgear router runs much cooler when positioned vertically on its end (sat on the 2 stands). When positioned horizontally on table top it gets quite hot. Better ventilation makes a big difference.

Re: Netgear DG834v4 - cannot connect to internet

Yes, best to use the 'feet' provided as it does tend to run quite hot. Heat problems can cause it to reboot sometimes I've noticed, mainly when I've had to put it away from naughty children's hands.
That's RPM to you!!
