My Plusnet TG582n is driving me nuts, to cut a long story short about a week ago the TG582n started flashiing it's broadband light and claiming my DSL line was down
So eventually I got my previous ISP's old THOMSON ST585v6sl router and put my plusnets details in and to my amazement it worked but the speed is so slow
Test socket new filters old THOMSON ST585v6sl
Download speed (Mbps) 0.21
Upload Speed (Mbps) 1.00
Ping Latency (ms) 42.63
The Plusnet TG582n says DSL down even in test socket, after resetting the box it appears to work briefly then says DSL down again
Fixed! Go to the fix.

It looks like the TG582n has developed a fault and caused the software in the exchange to band the line at 0.2mbps.
I've reset your line now. Can you let us know how your speed looks in about an hour?

The speed is much better now Thank you
Download speed (Mbps) 15.03
Upload Speed (Mbps) 0.95
Ping Latency (ms) 41.25
Does the line eventually recover from "banding" automatically if I was to try the Plusnet TG582n one last time?.

That's good to hear!

It should do, but it can take about 72 hours usually.
If you plug your TG582n back in, I wouldn't expect the line to be instantly banded. It's possible it was a gradual thing and something caused the software to band the line - possibly at the same time the router failed.
We can always manually remove banding anyway.

how i envy you, they have been supposedly trying to reset my wildly fluctuating low speeds since they persuaded me to renew my contract 6 weeks early so that they could send me a replacement router to replace my suspect 5 year old one
nothing has changed did a bt wholesale ethernet test showed best effort 8.5 i was getting 9 + 5 months ago now varies between 5 and 2, in as long as it takes to press redo test the s/n ratio varies from 13 and then down to 5 they seem clueless to sort it so frustated !!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Well I envy you Potherb! I'd love to have speeds between 5 and 2 (I guess you are talking mbps) mine varies between 0.8 and 0.1mbps 😞
