Re: Move to Max

So how often should I be resynching as a speed test shows me getting just over 2Mb download and my SNR is drifting between 4.5 and 5.5 and after 3:12 my  stats look like
[tt]Uptime: 0 days, 3:12:03
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 4,896
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 47.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 4.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 2,939,984
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 21
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 17[/tt]
I might be being a bit paranoid here but my last foray into MaxADSL was a complete nightmare.

Re: Move to Max

if your wireing a mess or you want better connetion why not invest in a BTi-plate or ask plusnet for one free, due to connection problems like yours.  its worth a try if dont work sell it on ebay.
I fitted one and details below after 9 day uptime
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 17 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 17
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 7

Re: Move to Max

OK Steve - don't panic yet.   Wink
All sorts of things can happen during the training period, and yes, the FECs, at the moment, are rather high. All they indicate, though, is that corrupt data blocks are being corrected. The uncorrectable blocks (CRC) would be the ones to worry about, but they look fine.
The general consensus is that a manual re-sync every day or two during the training period is A Good Thing, but preferably in the middle of the day - certainly during daylight hours, when the speed will be higher and the noise lower.
It must be worrying when you've had a previous bad experience with Max, but with the help of the forums and the great PN guys, you'll be sorted. As I say, best wait till the 10 days is up.

Re: Move to Max

While I would normally agree with that - in this case where the errors pile up when the noise margin drops much below 5dB I would do your resynchs in the evening otherwise your noise margin will drop and the errors increase to a point where the automated systems bounce the default noise margin up to 9dB or 12dB and then your speeds will be really affected
Regarding a filtered faceplate or an iplate as suggested by puddy I wouldn't bother at the moment. Let us see how things pan out over the next 10 days.
For information I am using an ADSLNation filtered faceplate with no other extensions wired in and I see the same problem (attenuation 51dB - so a bit worse than yours). It is entirely down to the wiring from me to the exchange.

Re: Move to Max

These are my stats, does the error rate look high taking into account the 40odd day uptime. SNR never usually goes below 6 normally.
I also have an ADSLNation faceplate.

Re: Move to Max

Jim
I got to 6 million FECs and my SNR was down to 4.5
So I kicked it and my connect speed now shows as 448/4448 with a down SNR of 7dB
I've got a integrated BT faceplace in the master socket with a short cable to the router and the phone plugged into the other front socket on the face place. There is no extension wiring installed

Re: Move to Max

@penfold FEC seems a bit high bur the corrected errors CRC and HEC  are fine so I wouldn't be concerned
@SteveA It looks as though your line has similar characteristics to mine - it just won't stand the very low noise margins due to interference from somewhere.
My stable speed is about 3776kbps (gives me an IP rate of 3,000kbps) By synching in the middle of the day I can hit 4600kbps but it all falls apart in the evening

Re: Move to Max

@Jim
Well my line runs from a pole from the bottom of a neighbouring garden so that last couple of hundred feet is in the air.
So here is the current status
Uptime: 0 days, 9:08:09
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 4,448
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 18.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 47.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 7.5
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 47,911
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 9
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 6
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 735.41 / 864.70
So it looks like doing the reset at night is the trick here

Re: Move to Max

Now if I could find a continuous monitoring tool for the PN supplied Thomson TG585 so I could see what my SNR is doing...
CRC and HEC are crawling up slowly with FEC increases dropping off as the SNR rises (its now 8.5)
So do I move my resync exercises to the evening because in the long run surely a slightly slower data rate with less errors and a good SNR is better than higher speeds with low SNRs and thus higher error rates.
I just wish BT would come and bury all the cables. Not sure why they didn't bury them when they put them in - it's a house from the early 70s and all the houses round here are on poles

Re: Move to Max

During the training period - fewer errors and a slightly reduced data rate is definitely better otherwise the systems may decide to up the default noise margin then you would be stuffed.

Re: Move to Max

Routerstats supports the 585v7 except you can't twiddle with the noise margin http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm

Re: Move to Max

Ok thanks, I've got it running under wine
Edited: Actually I haven't despite it showing on the grab page that its got the right values for RX and TX speeds and SNR its not actually plotting the graphs with the right values.
Edited again: Seems its a "known issue" with the Thomson router and you have to save the ini file and then edit it manually

Re: Move to Max

I think I'm on a road to nowhere.
Restarted it this evening.
SNR is now down to 5.5 and
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 6,159
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 9
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 5
after less than 2 hours.
and internet browsing is a bit sludgy with speed test showing about 1500 download which is lower than I had on a fixed 2MB line.
I'll give it until Monday and I'll probably give up.

Re: Move to Max

Well its still hanging on:
[tt]Uptime: 0 days, 13:48:12
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 4,576
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 47.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 7.0
oss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 36,984
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 29
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 23[/tt]
BT speedtest shows:
    Your DSL connection rate: 4576 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3588 kbps
Which is better than it was last week.
