Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

I feel reluctant to comment as to do so may imply blame and that's the last thing on my mind.
But this election does seem to have attracted a disproportionate share of criticism and laid itself open to, for want of a better word, sniping.
I have previously said that the election process in place should be followed for this round and afterwards debate can commence.
I still stand by that especially as the end is near and I hope very sincerely that the result is not tainted by events surrounding this election.

Does it REALLY matter?
We've had more votes than ever, isn't that what the whole purpose was?
Yay.  Good.  Glad everyones decided.

Well it appears that all the discussion surrounding this election has had a positive effect.
Interesting that from the other poll I started (Moderators Election - have you voted?) nearly 40% think more or all of the current candidates should be made moderators to increase the size of the team.

Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

Just four short points to make
(1) I've voted, as per the present rules & regs
(2) It's been a shambles
(3) The time for debate is after the election - then hopefully -
(4) We can get it right next time

So have I

(2) It's been a shambles

Depends on your point of view.

Definately.

(4) We can get it right next time

You can never get an election or voting system right. It does not matter how much you change the system you will always find someone who disagrees with the system that has been decided upon.
Anyway as you say in point "3" , The time for debate is after the election. Which gives people the time remaining on my signiture to go and vote if they havent already.

I like you points but do not agree with all of them.
(1) I have not voted, as per the present rules & regs. Voting is not compulsory and abstention is not an option.
(2) I would not say this election as been a shambles. The biggest mistake from the moderators side was missing of one of the candidates initially. Closing date and associated publicity leaves a  lot to be desired. However it is not for the mods to correct Plusnet's publicity errors.
(3) The right time for debate is when people are willing to debate the subject. However that debate should be separate from the election although their is no reason that it can't run at the same time.
(4) Easy way to put it is always get it right first time but this can be after lots and lots of practice.

What concerns me more is that out of 677 Thread Views, only 33 voters have been registered their votes.
It's your community guys and gals..

This is why I stirred things up again.
I was also concerned that having had a vigorous debate about how the forums are moderated that demonstrated a very considerable support for a significant change, the election was started anyway.
It appears now that this election may have the highest turnout ever - if so the discussions have been a good thing.

Emailing 300,000 people will generally have that affect, yes.

Another fine argument for scrapping moderator election polls and just getting on with putting new moderators in place.

I'm a moderator on 2 other sites and was approached by the administrator of the site, in both cases they were watching the site looking for mature responses, able to not rile other members etc and they then sent a message to whoever they wanted to put in the role. On both sites a voting system was in place but it was under represented, oppinionated and very cliquey (sp).

Sorry if I have't been observant  Huh - but how often do PN send out newsletters ?.
maybe next time - PN and the moderators agree a firm date for the email - which would publicise the election, which would be timed around that the newsletter ?.

Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

Why have a closing date?
Why not just say that voting will close after enough people have whinged on about the voting arrangements?  Crazy

Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

Hi Mal,
We try to send out one a month.
For a future election, we can certainly look at scheduling it accordingly, but in this one, the moderators election was a fairly late addition and it also depends on the email schedule at the time.
Certainly something to consider for future sends though.

Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

I've just spotted something in the first post in this poll:
Quote from: Barry
<snip>
The election will stay open until February 15, 2009, 08:37:39 whereby the moderators will check the votes and contact the successful candidates.
Vote wisely.

Moderators Note by Chemical Brother - Changed time/Date for end of poll to match that of the actual poll.

So it looks as if the end date has been extended to match the information given in the newsletter - only sensible option really.
Time for everyone to amend their signatures!

Re: Moderators Elections - Voting thread [SPLIT FROM POLL RESULTS]

By the time any new moderators are appointed the election will be finished, the majority of the action on the forums will have died down and there will be no need for the new moderators. I see redundancies looming.
