Mid Afternoon Dropouts

bought a new router a few weeks ago which has been rock solid and much better that the old one but the last 2 or 3 days it has lost internet connection during the afternoon. It will occasionally get back up by itself but often needs a reboot. It doesn't seem to be getting warm.
I wondered if there was anything going on that might cause this or the problem is at my end. Any chance on you having a look at my stats PN to see if there is anything odd. I did have to switch it of a few times over the last couple of days due to relocating it to a different part of my office the the problem was there before I moved it.
Thanks

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

Hi Phyllis,
Have you had heavy rain recently?  There is every chance that your line has degraded due to dampness.  Could you please gather all of the information requested here - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html
Is the phone line quiet - dial 17070 option 2.
Have you noticed if the disconnections are associated with an incoming or out-going call?  If yes, try a new filter.
Will wait for your stats and test results.
Kevin

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

I believe there is a background problem for some Users on the PN Network.
I've also been having a crop of mysterious dropouts / disconnects that I'm trying to get to the bottom of for the last week or so.
Very odd, in that there is not always a disconnect, but always an inability to access Plusnet facilities such as Member Centre and the Forums, meanwhile in other Tabs in Firefox the World carries on as normal.  Sometimes closing the specific Plusnet Tab brings it back to life, but usually it just comes back on its own after 20 minutes or so?
Today was worst case as it failed in the middle of trying to raise a ticket.
@Townman  Not trying to hijack this thread - until I can gather more evidence.

BT speedtester looked slower than usual but using the old trster it is more in line with what I usually get:
D/L - 11.35
U/L - 0.93
Ping - 40.88

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

Might these errors from last night be responsible and what do they mean. The router says the connection has been up for 7 days.

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

Hey Phyllis,
Thanks for the information, I'm sorry to hear about the drops. Its a difficult one this! The line itself looks stable and the speeds look fine as well. It took some digging but I think I might have found out why the connection has been dropping.
<img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image14092349669668.png"/>
Your line has been running at 3DB SNR which is quite low for your line, I can also see quite a lot of errors after looking back a week or so. Recently over the last few days DLM has kicked in and increased the SNR to 6.8 which as far as I can see seems to have stablised the line.
Have you had any drops over the last few days?

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

Thanks,
since I originally posted it has been relatively stable - until about 20 mins ago when it dropped again but was that something to do with you looking at it?
I put the initial drops down to the routing of the cable to the router that was lying on top of a UPS and it wasn't there before I installed a new PC - it must have got shifted in the process so I moved it away form any electrical devices / cables just in case. Until yesterday speeds have been 11+ and stable but today only 10 which made me have a look at what was going on.
After the recent drop and reconnect things look slightly better:
Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 1100 13172
Max Rate (Kbps) 1100 13452
SNR Margin (dB) 6.9 6.2
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.9 31.6
Errors (Pkts) 0 0
Download speedachieved during the test was - 10.9 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 11.62 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.89Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

Re: Mid Afternoon Dropouts

I assume looking at the router log and your graph that there were drops last night but I did not notice those
