Re: Low upspeed connection

Here's what +net said:
"
Testing your line further we are not seeing any specific issues that may be causing the problem however there are quite a few errors showing on the voice section of your line.
To check this out the best thing you can do is to have your voice line checked for any faults. Any loss of dial tone or noise (crackle, static etc) on the line can cause a severe reduction in speed and often intermittency. Even if you do not generally use the voice service it is important to ensure it is working correctly. This also includes checking your filters and phones are working correctly.
....
Should you not be with us for your phone service I recommend contacting your voice provider and getting them to look into the issue for you.

Re: Low upspeed connection

on the BT line check page:
"
Important
We can only check the line if it's not currently being used. This includes:

- Internet access
- Phone calls using a standard or VoIP phone
- Fax
- Broadband services e.g. BT Vision
You'll need to run this check using a PC connected to a different line and ensure that the line you wish to check is unused.
"
How am I supposed to do that without a 2nd line?

Shouldn't matter either way.  A PSTN fault supercedes an ADSL fault.

Re: Low upspeed connection

The quote came direct off the BT line fault page:
"You are here:  Your account > Faults > Line check"
There's a very slim chance this link will work.....
http://www2.bt.com/btPortal/application?origin=ftpd_hub_page.jsp&event=bea.portal.framework.internal...

Re: Low upspeed connection

It worked - ignore that just phone BT when you can hear the noise
number is 0800 800 151 - taken from the telephone directory under fault reporting

Re: Low upspeed connection

Well, I ran it anyway:
"We cannot detect a problem with this line."

Dave - Give BT a ring on the number Jim's given you.

Re: Low upspeed connection

Well, I phoned them and they did a line test, came back clear. They suggested I talk to +net.....
I'll ask around and see if anyone has spare phone cables or routers I can try.

Re: Low upspeed connection

You need to call that number when you can hear noise on the line without the router connected and don't mention broadband or Plusnet at all

Re: Low upspeed connection

I never actually use a phone on the line, I don't even have one plugged in!

Re: Low upspeed connection

I did try that, problem is the faint hissing I could hear may have just been my tinnitus.
