Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

A few months ago I noted that my local exchange upgraded and I became able for an upgrade. I requested this from PlusNet and was informed that I would be now connected to ASDL2. I even had to ask Plusnet to lower my monthly fee.
At this time I had hoped to see a higher throughput speed. I ticketed Plusnet and it was established that there was some form of line fault. BT were duly called, attended, didn’t actually found a fault but did prove that there was now no fault. My guess that he disturbed a ‘loose’ connection.
I changed the usual, micro filters, routers etc etc, Plugged into the test socket and carried out many many speed test. All were returning results of speed in the region of 3 – 4 Mbps. A very recent BT Speed test results showed a  Download speed achieved at 3.14 Mbps and suggested that the acceptable speed is  4Mbps to 21Mbps. The IP profile for my line is 16.52 Mbps
Here is the latest stats from my Thompson Router;
Uptime: 0 days, 12:11:43
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 444 / 17,281
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 1.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 15.5 / 26.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 30.0 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 12 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 18 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 609,475
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 705
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 673
Should I be achieving a better throughput?
How do I get Plusnet to sort out this long standing problem. There is an open ticket - but no action.
Thanks in anticipation of your assitance

What does this say for your current line speed https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

Well there is something very odd and wrong somewhere.
Sync looks good and in line with the D/S attenuation figure of 26
There are some errors on the line (CRC's) during those 12 hours - but it's not excessive
Yet you are only getting 3-4 Mbps on the speed tests at all times? - that is truly dire.
Nothing jumps out from the 'stats as being wrong/out of line.
Almost sounds like a faulty line port on the exchange MSAN........

Estimated line speed:
    7Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2012-06-18 18:39:11
Current line speed:
    13.9 Mb

On average its between 3 - 4 Mbps, does depend on which speed tester I use ie once in a while it may get to the higher end of 4Mbps!!!!

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

You must have been sync'd at 15750kbps at some point - though you are now at 17281
The formula is sync speed *0.883  = BT IP profile
Plusnet IP profile "Should" be the BT IP profile rounded down to nearest 0.1Mbps.
Sometime it is mis-set much lower in error- hence the question posed to check yours just to rule out it had not been set at some silly figure - like 3!
The Plusnet profile is known for not keeping up with changes in the BT profile.

Any idea what I can do next, put up with it, change ISP?

See what the DC team make of it hopefully tomorrow.

(hope your not using wifi)

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

Via a metre length of Ethernet cable straight into the back of the router. During the past couple of months, I have tried also sorts of different combinations including only the router into the test socket of the BT master socket, I have used wireless. I have left the router at the master socket for a week with only one telephone connected via a filter. Nothing I do here seems to increase throughput.

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

Is that a 585 modem/router? Try turning the wireless off to see if that makes any difference as a fault or a bug in the firmware might give a problem. If no change, I'd suggest try another modem/router to see if it is causing the problem.

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

It's a Thompson tg585b v7 router
I forgot to mention during this time I have also tried a non wireless ASDL2 router and again similar throughput problems

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

Hmmm,  Undecided
What type of computer have you got, and do you know how to do a netstat and tracert in a command prompt ?
Just want to see if anything is using your connection making your speedtests slow, and if there's anything obvious with the ping times on a tracert.

Re: Low Throughput, High sync speed, Nil Output Power

Here is a couple of screen dumps from using netstat and tracert.
At this time using an AMILo L 2735, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5550@1.83GHz, DDR2 4096 Bytes, Windows Vista
Hope it helps!!
