BT had my profile at 250kb/s and told me the internal wiring was at fault. cancelled and asked for a MAC code to go to PlusNet.
Well even bigger surprise, the speed suddenly increased to 3400kb/s download. Short lived as it was, it proved the internal wiring was NOT at fault. I now have PlusNet router on main socket and the profile shows 500kb/s. Is this something that PlusNet can improve, or BT still having it all their own way???

Hi there,
That's the profile on BTs side, I'm afraid. It's set to 7150 here, but it depends on how stable the connection is and what sort of downstream sync speed your router is reporting - any chance you could paste your router stats in here so we can have a look?

Don't know how to do this, but the situation has improved considerably now with a pretty stable download speed of 3300kb/s

You can get your router stats from the TG585v8 by browsing to http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?be=0&l0=2&l1=0 (click the link). You will need to enter the administration username (admin) and password (CP... the serial number of the router from the label underneath - all letters in capitals).
The stats should look something like
Uptime: 60 days, 10:19:58
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,136 / 5,928
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 443 / 6,904

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 20.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 18.0 / 31.0

Those stats look OK to me. If BT still have your IP Profile set at 500kbps instead of 3500kbps the value is probably stuck. The Digital Care Team will probably try a line reset to fix this. (A line reset restarts the 10 day training period and clears out DLM history records.)

Hi there,
Looks like the profile has now jumped up to 3500, it also looks like interleaving has been removed for the moment though that may well turn itself back on in the future at some point. It'll not make a great deal of difference though by the look of it.

Thanks for the help and comments all. I can live with this speed and having just checked, it is still at 3308 down and 359 up. It just surprises me that it takes a change of provider to kickstart BT and get them off their backsides rather than shoving people all over the world to be fobbed off. PLUSNET RULES lol
