Lots of Error on Annex M connection

Hi,
I been with Plusnet for years and moved about 2 years ago to a different part of town with clearly less that perfect ADSL connections.
My Technicolor router is reporting the following stats:
Uptime: 6 days, 18:36:52
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.112 / 5.771
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 1,99 / 1,99
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,6 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25,2 / 42,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 5,9 / 6,1
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 9 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 82.616 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 2.174.441
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1.345 / 1.170
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1.180 / 24.212
As you can see lots of errors!
Are these errors something which can be fixed either by BT working on my line or some other fixes I'm missing?
The router is connected directly to the master socket; no extensions are connected using a good quality microfilter. The master socket is then connected to an old style junction box by a 3 meter run and thence from there to the outside of the house to another BT junction box. This then connects to a tall metal pole (looks like a street lamp pool) about 20 meters away and then onto the exchange.
Would BT be up for replacing any or all of this local cabling just to try to resolve these errors (and hopefully improve my connection speeds and SNR etc) or are they generally not interested?
What else might be done to improve my connection? 🙂
Kind Regards
Simon

Re: Lots of Error on Annex M connection

I don't think those error counts are particularly high, for an almost 7 day period, especially if you've been using the connection heavily.
You don't seem to have gained very much extra upload bandwidth from Annex M.

Re: Lots of Error on Annex M connection

Hi,
Thanks for the comments.
The download speed does vary quite a bit; soon after a connect the speeds is reported in the 7.5 MBits range but will drift down over a few days to the 5.5 - 6.5 Mits range.
Uploads did improve quite a bit when Annex M was enabled; it was much lower than 1.1 MBits before this was applied. Download speeds didn't change very much.
As long as these errors are not outside the typical range then I won't worry too much 🙂
Kind Regards
Simon

Re: Lots of Error on Annex M connection

Hi Simon,
The best thing to do is to try and let us know when the speeds are at the lower level and I'll run some diagnostics. I've just tried to do that now but it looks like your router might be powered down?

Re: Lots of Error on Annex M connection

Hi Adam,
Please do run diagnostics as and when. The connection should be running 24/7.
I do get occasional "Time Out" disconnections from the router which seems to happen most when I'm watching YouTube videos and clearly the connection is not idle.
The current stats are as follows:
Uptime: 0 days, 23:32:37
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.108 / 5.970
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 367,82 / 31,08
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,6 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25,3 / 42,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 5,7 / 2,6
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 9 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 957 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 540 / 169.643
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 124 / 311
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 143 / 7.301
When I rebooted the router (via the menu option) the initial connection was at about 7.7 Mbits. About 24 hours later it was down to 5.9 MBits.
If there is any insight you can offer over these errors or if we can improve the connection speed then please do let me know! 🙂
Kind Regards
Simon

Re: Lots of Error on Annex M connection

Hi there,
I'm actually having some problems trying to run tests on your connection, they're stalling at the moment but I believe that to be due to a known problem affecting tests that BT are looking at for us.
In terms of the issue I'd agree the level of errors and subsequent drop in speed isn't right so I'd best advise you to raise a fault with regard to that: http://faults.plus.net
