Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

Is anyone else seeing higher latency on the BNGs compared to the older gateways?

I know I have a low ping response times generally and a few ms doesn't make a difference - but I am interesting if anyone on FTTC/ADSL sees the same.
I'm aware that our traffic can take different routes through the BT Wholesale 21CN network which will affect latency, but I can never get the same low ping times on the BNGs as I can on the older gateways.

Are you on 21CN or 20CN?

Re: Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

21CN, but one thing I have noticed with them and some other gateways, is that my TBB graph usually looks worse than it is, e.g. lots of  yellow maximum/blue average ping spikes when watching streams.

Re: Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

Andy
I'm on ptw-bng01 currently and seeing no difference to other gateways for ping times. BQM is seeing more small red lines though.
Currently:-
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 4ms

On Linux, I tend to use 'mtr' rather than 'ping', because it gives you a bit more detail about where the delays are -
$ mtr -r -c 10 plus.net

Re: Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

I always find i get a max of 68Mb on the bng's compared to 72Mb on the older ones. But my latency doesnt seem to change.

Re: Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

@ georgelnx - How strange. My average latency on any BNG is double what it is on the older gateways. I can tell which gateway I am on based on the ping times.
@ rongtw - Do you have increased latency on the BNGs compared to the older ones?
@ purleigh - Do you notice any difference in the latency on the BNGs?

I haven't bothered trying the BNGs recently, so can't really comment.
I used to be an avid gateway hopper, when there were gateway problems and switching could make a big difference in latency and packet loss.
When we were first asked to try using the BNGs I did try them for a while, but generally found the PTNs better.
These days I try to hop onto a PTN and stay on there for months, and only tend to change gateways if a thunder storm has knocked me off.
So unless 'Kelly' or 'Dave' specifically ask for helpers to assess a particular gateway, then you will find me on a PTN.

Re: Latency on BNGs vs older gateways

The new gateway is little faster than the old gateway.
With PTNs - I getting 73.1Mb down
With BNGs - I getting 74.5Mb down
