Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Hi Froug,
I've had to set the profile to 45000kbps to match the BT profile.
I've not been able to read the full history of this thread I'm afraid but I'm noticing a resynch almost exactly every two days, is that anything that you're doing yourself?

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Thanks - I'll check the lag issue later. I leave the router on all the time, and do not actively change anything. Current stats are as follows, and the DSL link has been up for 2.5 days:

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,4 / 19,9
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 22,0 / 33,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 13,0 / 12,2
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / -
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / -
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / -
Loss of Link (Remote): -

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Adam - I'm afraid your change has not made any difference (I'm still getting hideous lag when downloading/streaming).

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Apologies.....forgot to disconnect/reconnect the router. Now all is well, thanks.
However......although I appreciate your very timely support, I'm getting frustrated that we have to do this little dance every time the line resyncs. There must be away to fix this, and there must be others in the same position as I. What can I do to get this resolved permanently? Should I raise a ticket you can file a bug report against?

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

What's affecting you isn't normal profile change problem (where we lag behind the bt change), it's actually a similar but unrelated issue where a profile can get reset to max for the line type.  Chris Purvey was chasing down a fix for this the other today.
I'll check where we were at with it.

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

I guess that is a 'no', as the lag is back when downloading/streaming, so I need my PlusNet speed profile reset again. Can someone do that ASAP?
Thanks.

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

I've just set it to match at 5000 as that's what we're seeing on BTs side, though it was at 4500 so shouldn't have been lagging. Is your sync speed still showing around the 5.6Mb mark?

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Thanks Matt - that's fixed it.
Triggering event was a router power-cycle as it was hung. It behaved as it has in the past, by negotiating a 7Mbit link initially, then slowly dropping that over a period of days. It's currently at 6Mbits, and I expect that to drop back to 5-ish at some point, so best to leave it where it is at the moment.

Hello again - my lag is back.  Can you please reset my speed profile ASAP?
Thanks.

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

Hi there,
It'd dropped down to 4500 again so I've matched that on our side to sort the prioritisation, hope it's had the desired effect?

That did it - thanks.
Any progress on a permanent fix? I've had this for nearly 6 months now.

Re: Just joined from BE - ping spikes making gaming unplayable

.....the lag is back again. What's going on? It's never been this bad before. According to the wholesale checker my BT profile has not changed:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4.58 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1.2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5.41 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.83 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4.5 Mbps
I'm getting very frustrated with this.
