Is this OK

Just done a test on BT profile 7,000 - throughput 5890 (normaly get about 6,700 and BT engineer gets 7,100 on my line)
check straight afterwards gave 4,603 on plusnet
copied following and wondered if I should put it through as a possible fault or just live with it. - all around me are using Btinternet and theirs seems fine. I am on the £15 package so don't think I should be having any restriction put on my line.
Cable length to exchange (Stromness) about 100 metres

Re: Is this OK

Higher results on the BT Speedtester compared to the PN one is usually indicative of incorrect RWIN settings
If you tweak your RWIN as described here then you should see an improvement in speed.

Re: Is this OK

RWIN is in range
Looking good
Observations:
Good data stream (no/few rexmits)
with no improvement in speed (4306)
Also tried alternative PC running vista, this one uses xp pro but no different. Should I try another modem/router. This one is a speedtouch 780wl and I have the smaller speedtouch model as a spare.
Thanks - Mike

Re: Is this OK

Hiya Mike,
It certainly wouldn't hurt to try a diffwerent modem, but I doubt it would make any change.

Re: Is this OK

What is the next step as I am sure it isn't the modem either. Seems to be poor for a few weeks and then good for a while. I was only alerted to the fact that it was slowing when others on plusnet asked me to check as they are also having poor speeds of late.

Re: Is this OK

I decided to report to plusnet the degredation of speed but it appears that on a 8000 connection anything above 4000kbps is classed as none reportable even though I previously got in the 6600 region on average.
Just worried in case it gets any worse. If it has deteriated for no apparent reason then is it going to be reliable.
As we have another bt line I wondered if I should have adsl activated on that by an alternative isp - belt and braces like - As I am paying £15 per month and averaging about 6.3gb I could drop the present package I am to 8gb per month to help pay for the other line. Not dropping plusnet but just making sure that I always have broadband available.

Re: Is this OK

Hiya,
Did you know that we don't actually do an 8GB product?  Our Option 2 service gives 15GB per month (it changed in April).
Chances are that your slowdowns are to be exchange related, in which case you would probably see similar slowdowns on another supplier, unless they had an LLU service.
