Re: Iplayer on Wii.

So any more on this from Plusnet?
Have you fixed your end or are people just having lucky times?

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

We've not done anything since this. Last I knew Dave was running around the offices looking for a Wii remote so we can run some captures, but if people are still having problems then it would be great to hear your feedback? Saw this post earlier that suggests all might not be well and I stumbled across a similar post in uk.telecom.broadband the other day too Sad

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

It seemed to be better for me too last night (about 2000-2100).
I did some other tests, too, using the iPlayer diagnostics page which I think proves the Wii's generally poor throughput when using certain protocols......
Wii
Download 1600
Streaming 800-900 (just about adequate for glitch-free streaming)
Netbook with Firefox
Download 1600
Streaming 1500-1600
Netbook with Firefox with user agent set to "spoof" a Wii.*
Download 1600
Streaming 1500-1600
* I don't think the diagnostics page differentiates the tests by user agent. If however I visit the main iPlayer page using the netbook while spoofing the Wii's user agent signature, it tells me that there is now an iPlayer channel for the Wii etc.
I suppose it's probable that the BBC have been tuning their Wii streaming hosting servers and network during this time too.....

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

We've been looking into this internally and we *may* have discovered the caused for this issue.
I'll post back when we have more news on this.

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

I watched BBC iplayer last night. Firstly on the Wii which buffered quite regularly, so I switched to my PC. It ran fine in HD quality on my PC.

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

Please do.  Overall I am becoming quite frustrated with the PlusNet service and find I am spending far too much time being inconvenienced by and diagnosing issues. Currently iPlayer on my Wii is unusable, as is YouTube on my PC almost all of the time (unless I wait for ages before starting to play a video). iPlayer radio to my Logitech Squeezebox devices also frequently suffers from buffering related drop outs. I'm paying a premium price for my PlusNet connection and feel that the service ought to work much, much better than it does.
I'm sorry to say this, as the PlusNet support is second to none, incomparable even.

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

I'm also having the buffering issue - even with a synch speed of 5500kbps and a download speed of 4780 kbps. Dave from plusnet, any more info. on this?

Re: Iplayer on Wii.

Just checked and no difference here - Tests on laptop show download speeds of approx 4500kbps and streaming speed of approx 3000kbps.  Nintendo wii shows same download speed but a streaming speed of less than 1000kbps.
