thanks for both of your help.

 

It appears it may have been my fault by moving the dsl cable too much when cleaning

No problems at all. Fingers crossed the speed doesn't drop again.

after plugging back into the socket normally speed has dropped again but not as bad. Getting 2.5Mbps

I believe its the dsl cable one part of it is slightly exposed moving the cable can change the speeds

a friend of ours who lives down the road is supposed to be getting fibre today. Her phone line has gone down. Could this be causing issues?

Sorry to hear your speed has dropped.

 

I'd recommend trying a different cable. If you would like us to supply one, we'd have to send one out with a new router. If you contact our Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 (Selecting Option 1 then Option 2) we can arrange that.

It's possible but that would be speculation.

We'd be happy to cover the fee of the router (excl. p&p of £6.99) on a new contract and possibly a cheaper monthly deal too.

well it appears my line is back to normal. I believe the dsl cable may have something to do with it but I think more that the work the neighbour was having done had more to do with I have been stable at 6Mbps for the last 4 hours

Happy to hear you're back up to speed.

I'd recommend calling Customer Options if you want a quote on fibre broadband. At the time of writing this, there is no wait time to get through to them and they are here until 8pm.

I am getting crappy speeds again.

 

I do not believe it had anything to do with my ethernet cable which has seen better days but has everything to do with the box down the road or the exchange in Lazonby my speeds since Friday have ranged from 1.45, 4.45 and 2.45. I have done all the usual tests. Can anyone advise as this is getting rather annoying now.
