Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

There shouldn't be any issue with turning off your router when you're not using it.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Is there any way that I can check myself for connection dropouts so I can see if things I change actually have an effect?

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Hi, I've deliberately left my router on to look for disconnects and it has currently been up and connected for 36 hours. James, is it possible to confirm that there have been no disconnects since about 7:30 on Thursday night, last 36 ish hours?
If I remain without disconnects, how long before BT up my line speed and it filters through to plusnet?
I've ordered a replacement micro filter just in case my current one is dodgy.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

My router is now recording 69 hours 24 minutes up. Will my speed go back up? When?

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Wow. Now it's about 4-5 days of snail speed internet. This is shocking.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Well my recent episode when an unknown reason dropped my profile  from 7150 down to 500, the synch however stayed at 8128. that took four days to go back up in one jump

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Hiya,
It can take upto 5 days for this change to occur, which takes us through to late afternoon today since 5 days after the last update.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Well it still hasn't updated and that's 6 days on your counting.
I thought 5 days was for minor adjustments but 500 to 2000 is 400% and should surely take less.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

Yeah, I hope it doesn't happen again, and if it does it isn't 6+ days to reset.
The only saving grace was that you upped my speed to 500 so at least it wasn't too bad. 6 days at 250 would have been bad. Thanks.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

I've left my router on since this problem and all has been ok. Since I don't want to waste electricity anymore I turned it off last night. Turned it on this evening and it synced at 890 instead of 2500, which it had been. Left it an hour and restarted the router and it synced at 2100 but all speed tests show 700kbps down. My IP profile on plusnet is set at 1500kbps. I'm guessing this is the start of it grinding to a halt again since this seems to be how it starts. Will this ever get fixed or will I only get a full service half the time?

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

as a rule never switch on after 16:00, best time is the morning 1 hour after sunrise, then leave it on

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

But why? Surely I should be able to turn it on when I want.

Re: Intermittent very slow speeds

You can turn your router on when you want and be content with the sync speed you get or you can turn your router on at a time when the sync speed is likely to be the greatest.  I think this is to do with interference.  The average interference levels vary during the day and peak in the evening so this tends to reduce the signal quality and hence sync speed.  I'm not sure if this is cross-talk from other telephone lines or pick-up from other electrical appliances.
