Intermittent Connection Problems

Over last couple of weeks have been experiencing intermiitent internet connection problems.
Sometimes after initially booting up the browser cannot connect to internet.
At other times after happily browing for extended periods, I would leave pc and return to find no connection via browser.
In both cases even typing in the IP address for my router will not bring up admin page.
To get connection back I either have to uplug router, leave for a bit, and power it up again or, if I can get to the router admin page then disconnecting and connecting often seems to fix it.
Just wondered if my router was likely to be the problem (had same one for several years.....Netgear DG834) or whether it could be Plusnet network issue re plan B capacity problems mentioned on service status?
Had similar problem with previous router and new one seemed to sort it.

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems

Hi, mhaffy,
The main thing I would take from your post is that it seems to be your connection to the router where you're having trouble. Are you using a wired or wireless connection?
Plan B is only likely to cause speed issues rather than dropped connections.

Re: Intermittent Connection Problems

I have an original DG834 (no version number after the DG834 on the bottom) and found that it would lock out at times. Two things made the difference:
1. Upgrade to the latest firmware: http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2319
2. Don't use the router for DNS. Instead configure the DNS servers on your PC so that it bypasses the router. I recommend you use 212.159.6.9, 212.159.13.49, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

DG834 is wired only. DG834G is the wireless equivalent.
