Increasingly intermittent bb access

After a long period of trouble free access, my bb access in the last few weeks drops out ever more frequently.  The phone line is fine.  I recently (in the last two months) switched to a BT Voyager 2091 router (given to me by a happy PlusNet customer), because I acquired a laptop, and an Android phone.  However that worked fine until very recently.  I switched to WPA/WPA2 PSK security in early May 2013, but that didn't seem to cause any problems either.  The problems have appeared in the last two weeks, and seem to be getting ever more frequent.  I guess I could try my original wired router at the weekend , but I need my Android on wi-fi at least during the week.
Is anybody experiencing similar difficulties or have any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

If you are connecting wirelessly, try a wired cable and see if that solves the problem.
I've just bought a new Dell laptop and I'm having huge issues with the wireless. All other computers in the house are fine, just this particular laptop Sad

Oh and worthwhile setting up some kind of monitoring on Thinkbroadband - it will ping your modem at regular intervals and show you a graph of how available your connection is.

Thanks for the replies - I should have mentioned I am connecting wired to the desktop, and wireless to the laptop and android.  I will investigate your other suggestion.

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

If you're anywhere near Wellingborough, I have a spare wireless router/modem you can borrow to rule that out Smiley

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

Dom, thanks for the offer.  I am in south Beds, so it's a bit far.  I have set up the TBB ping graph. Need to run some errands, so will be logging off shortly.  Cheers, Mark

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

Hi there,
I've taken a look at your connection and can see that you appear to be turning your router off frequently?

Would you be able to leave your router switched on and we'd be able to see when the drops are occurring?

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

Thanks for the reply.  I have done as you requested and left the router switched on.  No problems with access since Friday.

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

Good news Smiley
For reference, leaving your router on 24/7 will only cost you around an extra fiver a year (on top of what it costs when it's on during the day) - I've worked out the yearly running costs are less than a tenner when used 24/7 anyway Smiley

Re: Increasingly intermittent bb access

Apologies.  I remember when first setting up that keeping the router switched on was recommended.  However I found that for the first 18 months or so I could switch off without issues.  The problems I have experienced of late seem to have disappeared since keeping the router switched on.
