Increased latency this evening

Anyone else seeing increased latency in past few hours? I went to check the service status but it's down for maintenance (the only time I've had an issue)
Example: usually consistently 8-9ms to ntp.plus.net, now it's bouncing around 8-30ms. No downloads running, wired connection, tried gateway hopping and other hosts are returning similar variations.

Re: Increased latency this evening

..and this would normally be just green with occasional yellow 'blips' (dynamic IP, so had to start fresh)

Re: Increased latency this evening

Are you using wireless when getting these results? just that the latency at your router is high, when using ethernet  cat 5 cable the router will be 0 or 1ms normally and the latency at the destination is averaging 15.9ms ,
Try pinging the bbc or some other target outside plusnet's network, also is throughput reduced at all during the time the ping is fluctuating?
To answer your question check out the other TBB ping graphs http://community.plus.net/ping-graphs/#unlimitedfibre

@Deathtrap: wired connection. Looks like everyone is seeing the same thing then judging by the other graphs.

Re: Increased latency this evening

Looks to be the case, for all those customers graphs we can see  at least, something is a little odd with the latency being so high at your router  (1st hop) it should be that high,is it like that all the time? if so there may be a config issue between you PC lan and the router, or a fault with the router itself , I was affected by the same peak time jitter, last night too , 8pm through to 10.30pm ,and my throughput was reduced to around 40-55mbps, also when throughput is cut, the latency whilst downloading goes through the roof  ,where as when i get the max throughput it's barely noticeable no or very little increase in latency  this is normal HTTP downloading not P2P
Monday night was more  severe, and links to the usa where affected more severely than uk destinations, although throughput didn't really suffer
peak time congestion?  my normal throughput speed the GW i'm on is pcl-ag06

Re: Increased latency this evening

--- ntp.plus.net ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 10 received, 0% packet loss, time 9013ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 7.992/8.318/8.652/0.239 ms
I don't know why the ping to router is so high, but pings to elsewhere are back to normal.
I also get peak time issues almost every night with certain servers in Germany, and there was a slight speed decrease when the latency was askew.

Re: Increased latency this evening

After the issues yesterday I've just come on and noticed it's going a lot slower than usual, so did a few checks.
Latency to everywhere has increased to min 17ms (interleaving?) from 8ms and IP profile is now about 10mb less  Sad
Download speedachieved during the test was - 26.12 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12 Mbps-28.79 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 28.79 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 5.93Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

On https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed it shows:
Estimated line speed:
39Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2013-05-20 17:57:36
Current line speed:
37 Mb

Any way to resolve this?

Re: Increased latency this evening

From the info you have provided, i would agree it would appear that DLM has lowered your IP profile, and applied interleaving delay of 7- 8ms ,there is unfortunately  not much the isp can do, regarding resetting DLM ,as that's within Openreach's control and would require them to send an engineer to the FTTC cab to manually reset it ,
So this would have to be raised as a fault, but bt may disagree on that , But your Plusnet IP profile should of also dropped to match the BT wholesale profile , so maybe this with support may get it sorted out quicker

Re: Increased latency this evening

I agree DLM is probably to blame, but it seems strange this happened after yesterday's issues. Prior to that my connection was as stable as anything (at least a week without drop)
I really don't want to be left like this

Re: Increased latency this evening

The only thing you can really do is raise it with support ,and see if anything can be done, it's possible that there is a line fault  that is responsible for DLM intervention, If the reason for it was a random event, then maybe it will up your speed and remove interleaving  at some point in the near future,

Re: Increased latency this evening

They do read these forums, but as to if they actively read all the threads or not on the same day is a different matter , http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/contact/

Re: Increased latency this evening

Hi bradw,
I've taken a look over your connection and can see that interleaving has been applied. The DLM has also reduced your profile and you're currently syncing at the top end of this profile.
I'd suggest running through our faults troubleshooter at http://faults.plus.net and providing your line remains stable we may need an engineer to reset your line.

Re: Increased latency this evening

Hi Chris, thanks for confirmation. I went through the faults page.
