IP profile question

If my router is synced to the exchange at 12903 Kbps, what should my IP Profile be approximately?

Re: IP profile question

Depends on what type of connection you have.

This link will help.

Re: IP profile question

Thanks. It's ADSL2+ and the calculator in the link is showing a Profile of 11000 kbps. How long should it take for the IP profile to match the BT value? Days?

I ask because the DLM has decided that my line is stable enough for a noise margin of 3.3dB and adjusted the sync speed to suit. The line is perfectly stable but the IP profile hasn't changed, yet.

Incidentally, I just had an interesting conversation with an agent who was adamant that I can't possibly be getting that kind of speed because it's twice what BT say it should be. Well, it is and I am!

Re: IP profile question

The calculator is for ADSL1.

For ADSL2+ the profile is 88·2% of the sync. It should change up or down within minutes if the sync changes.

There was a time when PN were slow to catch up with the BT profile, but I thought that was all sorted now.  Undecided

Re: IP profile question

The sync speed was raised two days ago, still the same IP Profile though. Sad

Re: IP profile question

What are you using to see the IP Profile?

The Plusnet Current Line Speed doesn't seem to limit the speed on the new network anyway.

Re: IP profile question

@ejs

I'm using https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

So the IP profile should be around 11530kbps. It's actually showing less than 10 on that link. I know it's quite fast, but every little helps!

Re: IP profile question

Presumably the BT speedtester further diagnostics (don't reboot anything, ignore all the text in red, just run the test) shows the correct IP profile?

The Plusnet Current Line Speed always seemed about as quick and reliable to update as sending a letter through the post.

Re: IP profile question

The BT speedtester won't run the "further diagnostics" section. Just returns an error message saying an error has occurred! So I can't check what BT thinks the profile is. It's been like that for months!

Re: IP profile question

Fix

Sorted! Managed to chat to someone who understood what I was saying. Smiley

Looks like the PN IP Profile system still needs a nudge on occasions.

Thanks for replying folks! Smiley
