I have no master socket, external NTE (?) grey box on outside of house with 3 internal phone points.  One has an alarm fitted to it (closest to NTE), which hasn't been dialling out, another has the main phone and sky box connected to it - living room  (1 filter, splitter to 2 leads then connected) and the third has the broadband router connected to it upstairs in study.

I'm not clear from this as to whether you have a filter on the alarm.

Re: IP Profile reduced

Cry another update ...
ok so internet disconnected around 715 tonight.. and also noticed that the phone line goes dead also (when I pick up the phone I don't get a dial tone).  Calling the landline from a mobile then connects and the dial tone returns for outbound calls again.
I have swapped the router and the filter on the router... to see how things go.
BT Speed-checker has reduced profile.. hopefully it'll reset itself again soon...
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.27 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.5 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6.91 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.35 Mbps

Looking better now..
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4.68 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6.78 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)

I think the issue may be my cordless phone.  I have seen on other boards that fitting 2 filters sometimes helps.  For now it remains unplugged and so does the sky box, but the alarm is plugged in.
Will reconnect the sky box, then the phone and see what happens.

Re: IP Profile reduced

An update on this.. been out all day today, have disconnected everything (sky, phone) from all internal sockets.
Only thing left connected is broadband through filter in room upstairs.
Disconnected again 2 hours ago (PPPoA disconnected, I assume this means internet?) and BT profile back down to 1.5Mbps.

What should my next action be?  Move router to socket near where the line enters the house (I have an external NTE without a master socket)?
I might be best going back to the PlusNet standard router to see how that goes with everything else disconnected...

Re: IP Profile reduced

Hi Adam,
All seems to be ok today.. fingers crossed.  Have been connected for 14 hours without a disconnection.
What was strange, was why it disconnect yesterday when nothing else was attached to phone sockets except router and filter.
My plan of action... I have still got phone, alarm and sky box disconnected;  will see if it stays stable over the next few days, then reconnect the sky box and alarm and then the phone later on in the week and keep monitoring it.
Can you post a screenshot of my connection as you did before, just to see how you see things from your end?

Re: IP Profile reduced

spoke to soon .. again  Crazy
Connection dropped at 17:15 again today.  Cry
Have changed the router back to the PlusNet Thomson one and changed the filter once more and also moved the router to a different telephone point (have no master socket).
Will see how the next 24 hours go... and update here once again.

Re: IP Profile reduced

Looking more stable now...
DSL Connection
Uptime: 0 days, 6:16:53
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 6,848
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 178.50

Internet
Type: PPPoA
Uptime: 1 day, 1:48:41
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 536.08 / 1.17
What's the most important for line stability? DSL uptime or PPPoA uptime?
Thanks.

Re: IP Profile reduced

Hi John,
As mentioned in my reply to your PM I won't bother posting a graph as it would be the most pointless graph as I can see you've been online since 19:47 on the 30th, so it's all looking good from our point of view.

for anything related to line profile it's the DSL connection time that's important.

Re: IP Profile reduced

but according to BT my IP profile is 6MB, but PlusNet profile is 0.5mb.. can this be bumped up?  Has been like this since 8am when I last checked.

Re: IP Profile reduced

ok came home today, made a phone call and then noticed that the internet had disconnected again at time of phone call. Which might point to a faulty filter.
So disconnected everything again and attached the router and new filter to the socket nearest where the line comes into the house (don't have a test socket).
BT IP Profile back down to 0.25Mbps, but downstream still 6.72Mbps.
I promise to be patient now and will leave it where it is, with everything else disconnected for at least 3 days!  Wink
