The speed tester doesn't work on an average over the duration of the test

As Jim said most don't use the average they report the peak speed and often use multiple threads.
One test that does give reliable results (average speed based on the time to download the whole test file as a single thread) is http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

32110 - Plusnet profile 10000k mean your speed will be less than that probably around 9800k ! It won't go over 10000k because it limit at 10000k

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Looking at some of the other posts on this thread it appears that BT could be using the new calculated 88.2%profile speed as a sync rate and then re-calculating the profile from it  to the delta report.  e.g. sync rate 5312 gives profile of 4684 which leads to a reported profile of 4000.  Sounds silly but it works on other profile comments on this thread.
Edit Sorry, should have posted this in the 88.2% thread but don't know how to move it.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

I think BT will be changing in December like for example:
At the current moment:
Sync rate - 13759K
BT Profile - 12135K
Plusnet Profile - 12000K
From December could be changing to this:
Sync rate - 13759K
BT Profile - 12135K
Plusnet Profile - 12135K or 12200K or 13000K

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Have BT changed the multiplier to 85.5% as this is my current ratio.

Actually guys,
Can any of you that have a non-rounded profile tell me what your figures are for..
1. Sync

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Mine is still at 88.2%
With my long ago memories of working with numbers in mind, I ask a question, that I hope you will not consider condescending. Smiley
Are you positive you have not made a calculation error, used wrong data or calculation. or misread the results? It's so easy to do.
Can you recall what the synch was?
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

C'est mon plaisir, Mme Jo
1. Sync 9292
2. BT IP Profile 8198
3. Plusnet Profile 6500
(BTW sync has SNR 3.5 db in day. Late evening drop and resync @6db cause speed drop conforming with PN IP Profile)
